The red ball flashed crazily as it zoomed past the room and became even more noticeable in contrast to the darkened room. With the speed and size of the ball, the momentum could be enough to knock out a few teeth from a normal person's face, but without knowing the mass the probability of the ball smashing Wang Yunfan's skull to pieces was relatively higher than just giving him a bruise.
Given the short time to react, Wang Yunfan's brain immediately geared to one technique to dodge the speeding ball. Rather than moving away like a normal person, he stayed put. Both legs firm to the ground as his upper body bent backwards. This technique is what he calls...
The Matrix Dodge!
For a few seconds after executing the cool move, Wang Yunfan genuinely thought he was cool and almost wanted to compliment on himself for successfully dodging the ball, but when he discovered that the ball wasn't even moving anymore but stopped dead above his head, his legs gave out in shock. No later after that, his head met the wooden floor.
"F*ck! Ah!"
Wang Yunfan rolled around left and right as both his hands rubbed the back of his head where it met the ground. His attempt on being cool for once backfired. If he had a coolness meter, it would have probably dropped to the negative digits by now.
As if it couldn't get any worse, the ball suddenly dropped straight down where Wang Yunfan's head lay.
Thankfully no one was around to see Lianhua peak's master at such a pathetic state or hear the endless bouts of profanities which came out of his mouth to ease the pain. It was a bad habit that often many people would have, but it is proven to be a form of coping mechanism to pain as Wang Yunfan had read before. He was skeptical about that article, but he sure as hell was grateful for having a reason to recite bad words.
The ball rolled around in front of him innocently, to which he replied with a glare. Wang Yunfan quickly sat up and swiped the ball from the floor. Surprisingly, it was cold to touch despite the flashing red that resembled a red hot nickel ball and the size was just enough for his hand to fully grasp.
"What in the world is this?" He asked to himself as he examined the ball. As he remembered, there were no artifacts or items like these in this novel. Even several items that are only mentioned didn't correspond to the ball's rather futuristic designs. All the other magical or demonic items, tools, and weapons he knew would at least have an intricate design on them which gives them the feeling of ancientness; however the ball in his hand was just a plain sphere, something more tasteful in the modern world.
After a full minute of flashing red and white, Wang Yunfan couldn't take it anymore. It was incredibly annoying to see. If he had epilepsy, he'd have a seizure by now. Just who designed such a horrible thing?
The ball wasn't very big, so it wasn't hard to turn it around to have a full look at it. Wang Yunfan desperately tried to look for any kind of switches or buttons to stop the flashing red and to his delight, there was one. The color of the button was only slightly darker than the ball, so it was quite easy to miss. As soon as he found the button, he immediately pressed it, hoping that the flashing light would stop; which it quickly did.
A sigh of relief escaped from Wang Yunfan's lips. He was grateful that the ball has been disabled. Now all he had to do was to find out what it does. But before he could do anything further, the ball started to vibrate. Scared that it would explode, he immediately let it go, dropping it to the ground while he stood up and took a few steps back for a precaution.
But what he would expect as an actual explosion became nothing but an explosion of light. Wang Yunfan closed his eyes for a second before adjusting to the brightness, then his eyes widened. In front of him was a screen, a holographic screen like those he had seen in movies. The ball below him was the source of the light, which conjured the holographic screen in front of him.
