Entry Twenty-Seven
Dear Diary,
One of the downsides of living in California is the fact that we get no snow. Seventy-five degrees is considered cold here. I've never seen snow in person, only on TV. Honestly, I think Christmas here is just as dry as our climate. No one really gets real trees- cost too much, can't water them daily and knowing California, they'd probably catch on fire. The Christmas decorations look a little out of place in this dry terrain, but that's never stopped us from putting lights everywhere.
It's a few days after Christmas now, and I still have a few more days before I have to go back to school. New Year's Eve on Saturday, but I still don't have any plans. Blake and I really want to go to Disneyland, but it's so expensive!
"We could try and sneak in?" Blake paces around my living room.
"We'd get caught," I sigh. "Do you think they'll let us stand by the front so we can watch the fireworks?"
Blake frowns. "Probably not. We can always watch them from far away, but y'know, it's just not the same."
I love Disneyland, but Blake's never been before. He hasn't experienced the loud Disney music playing, the parades, the characters walking around...even if it's cheesy, everyone should visit Disneyland at least once in their life. It's a shame it's so goddamn expensive! The price for a ticket is outrageous.
"I don't know what to do, Mom." I rant to my mother while cleaning up dinner.
"You could always just watch the fireworks with us," my mom shrugs. "Or see what Blake's family is doing."
I groan. "I want New Years to be special, you know? This is our first New Years Eve together, what if this is the only one we get to spend together?"
"Do you want it to be your last New Years Eve together?" my mom asks.
"No," I answer immediately. "God, no. I really hope not. I'm just...nervous? I guess? We're seniors, and who knows what life has in store for us?"
"Gwen," my mom hugs me. "Don't think about the future. Stay in the present. You can't control the future, but you can control now."
I sigh. "I know, I know. I just- I want to make this special for him."
"Well," my mom begins. "Blake likes to keep it simple, right? Why don't you just go up on the roof and watch the fireworks from there? You'll be able to see the park's firework show perfectly from there. And everyone will probably be at the park, so you two would be alone."
I ponder about it for a second. "Yeah, maybe I can make that work."
I guess it's worth a shot.
Until next time,
Gx.
