"'Chelle, I'm on my way- -Yeah, I'm sorry, I'll be there in 20 minutes."
Cassie hung up the phone and rolled her eyes. She had let time slip by her and let the party slip her mind. She had gotten home a few hours before hand, trying her best to ignore any conversation with her parents except from a quick hello and empty smiles. Her dad had to rush off to an art gallery opening as soon as he dropped her off. He never said much in the car, I suppose he didn't know what to say to his daughter who'd just been released from a mental house. Her mother was busy with her baby brother and had Hardly noticed Cassies return as entered back into her home through the front door.
"Hi." She said bluntly, with hardly any emotion as all.
"Cassie, sweetheart! Glad to have you home!"
Before she could say anything more, Rubén started crying out for her and she quickly went back to her baby. It's always the same. Cassies doesn't exist when the baby's in the room. Don't get me wrong, Cassie loved her brother more than anything. But her mother clearly loved him more than she had ever loved her. She always wanted a boy and wasn't afraid to tell Cassie that.
When she got upstairs, she undressed herself and looked through her closet to find something to wear to this stupid party she had promised Michelle she'd attend. While she was in hospital, her mum had went through her room and threw out any pills and alcohol. She has found cassie's stash off food. There must of been hundreds of chocolate bars and crisps, cans of coke and many other sweets.
The amount of food she found worried her. Scared her even. She knew Cassie didn't eat, so why would she have so much food? Anyway, She though it was best to leave it. She hoped Cassie would eat when she returns from the hospital. When she was better.
What she wasn't smart enough to know, is that Cassie didn't keep the food to eventually eat it. She kept it to force herself not to eat. Seeing all the food in front of her, it made her feel disgusting. It's stopped the thought of her wanting to eat. Seeing tens of thousands of calories right in front of her face, made her sick. She was glad her mother hadn't threw any away, or took anything for herself. She wanted to feel that way again. Being home made her sick.
Another thing her mum had missed was her stash of pills. She remembered exactly where they were. She was more than excited to have the experience of feeling a pill on the tip of her tongue again. She loved how it would fizz like a cherry fizz ball. She took a couple and continued to get dressed.
She was anxious. She hadn't seen her college friends except for Michelle in a year and as she missed them. She was nervous of how they'd react, she was a headcase and sadly, everyone knew it. She could imagine herself being the front headline of the college newsletter.
"Batshit crazy girl returns to spread her craziness to Roundview college."
Obviously that wouldn't happen. I guess the pills had started to kick in. As they did though, she stopped thinking about those things and was ready to leave the house. She promised 'chelle she'd meet her in the corner café and they'd meet the boys there, at the party.
