I swallowed the sudden lump in my throat.
"How are you so sure it was them you saw yesterday at the mall?" Liz spoke on my behalf. I was so much taken aback that I couldn't collect fitting words to spit out.
"Oh I'm sure. I saw the same sweatshirt that Gabby was wearing. And I'd recognize Tom's snowy gray hair everywhere."
What? He had a bonnet on. It could have been anyone.
"Then there was that time at the clinic," she swayed her fingers in mid-air.
Her words surprised me even more that I choked the other lump stuck in my throat.
"I saw Tom came out of the office when I went out to buy a drink. He didn't see me. Then I saw you come out of the same office when I came back with the drink," she stated. My heart was beating awkwardly.
"At first, I thought maybe it wasn't Tom. Maybe it was someone else. But then after conversing with you, I actually followed you. I was gonna approach you, however you already got on the bike and Tom looked pissed so I decided... nevermind. I value my life," she giggled at the last part.
It was too late when we realized that Jennifer had been behind us. I flinched when I heard her voice.
"What's this about Tom?"
Great. Just great.
I stopped my eyebrows from twitching with embarrassment and gawked at Liz instead. She returned it with her own stare of addlement.
And to think it couldn't get any worse, Cameron was with Jennifer. He was eager to join in on our conversation.
They were holding hands. I suppressed my uneasiness at the sight of them.
"Nothing's about Tom," Wes answered on my behalf this time. Liz and I and Wes nodded and motioned to say our farewells and leave.
"Doesn't sound like nothing. We were watching you guys from our spot and couldn't help notice that you were talking about something," Cameron uttered.
"I personally don't want to barge in in the conversation but Jen insisted," he went on. He stole a quick glance at me before facing back to Jen.
"Shut up babe," the latter scowled. I can't believe Cameron was following the evil Queen's orders. He kept his mouth shut, stealing glances at me as the conversation continued.
Babe?! I knew Cameron was all talk. He told me he'd break up with her. And look now; they're still together. Exchanging spits.
"We really need to go," Wes insisted. "My stomach's gone mad," he pressed his hand on his belly part as he slouched in fake pain.
"Lazowski. You're disgusting," Jen muffled. I was kinda astounded that she actually knew Wes last name instead of calling him moss-head.
Wes was surprised too, I noted. So was Liz.
Jennifer chortled. "Did I hear it right? You got on Tom's motorcycle?"
Cameron's facial expression shifted, I noted. From a grinning prince, his face turned stoic.
Jennifer chortled again, this time bemused. "Don't tell me..." Then she laughed cynically, her hand left Cam's hand.
Cameron glowered at me; the rest of his face didn't show much. Only his eyes. It was glowering at me coldly.
We managed to excuse ourselves. Correction. We forced to excuse ourselves. Even if they decided to block the way for more interrogation, Liz would shove them aside so we could escape.
