City Girl

Take a deep breath
Cough
I hate the smell downtown
Look up at the lights
Blink
I love the lights
It is moments like these where I know that I'm a city girl
I picture myself walking alone
Backpack held close
Looking up at the endless buildings
Taking in the constant buzz
Feeling the busy life all around me
This city never sleeps
Screen advertisements everywhere
Sometimes overwhelming
Other times comforting
Nose scrunched
Shallow breaths
Trying to filter the dense, polluted air
Scanning eyes
Tight-lipped smile
A sense of uncomfortable comfort
This is a home
A place after a busy day
The space between things to do and nothing to do
And as I walk, I'm on my way home
An internal soundtrack playing in my head
Flowing through the crowds of others going somewhere
Everyone is on their way too
An orange hand flashes bright
I stop at a corner as cars speed by
A blue guy appears
And I'm on my way again
I hate the smell downtown
I love the lights
And it's moments like these where I know that I'm a city girl

Inspiration: Walking around the city where I live.

The photo is not completely related, I just love the cityscape shots from the movie. Go see Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse if you haven't already - its a treat!
