11: Boredom

Yaxuan's P.O.V

It was a pretty boring day to be staying in the dorm and doing nothing. "So bored." I groaned and slouched on the couch in the living room.

"We've been inviting you to do stuff with us and you keep declining. Now you're complaining?" Yaowen said.

"But I want to do something else!"

"Like what?"

I shrugged and lazily slid down to the floor. "Who knows?"

"Oh, I know." Haoxiang said as he rolled the dice. He was playing Monopoly with Zhenyuan and Yaowen. "Why not go out with your pretty personal assistant?"

"That's a great idea!" I beamed and quickly got up to call her.

"Seriously?" Zhenyuan chuckled.

I called Selin and waited for her to pick up the phone. I paced in the living room and the three of them just watched me as they continued playing.

As soon as she picked up, I greeted her. "Hi, Selin."

"Why is he even smiling? She won't see it." Haoxiang whispered and moved a pawn.

"Yaxuan, do you need anything?" She asked.

"Do you have any plans for today?"

She hummed. "I'm on my way to the newly opened bookstore. Why?"

"Take me with you, I'm bored."

"He's probably bored because Selin isn't around." Yaowen whispered and laughed silently with the others.

"Oh, sure! I'll pass by your dorm then."

"Okay, I'll go get ready." I hung up and dashed to my room.

We entered the bookstore she has been talking about since we got united. Her eyes sparkled as she looked around. Even I was amazed by how the bookstore had so many books.

She started walking further inside the bookstore and slowly looked at the books she was passing by.

"What are you looking for?" I asked as I walked beside her.

"Found it!" She took out a book from the shelf and excitedly showed it to me.

It was The Little Prince book. It suddenly reminded me of Cess. Her account, TheLittlePrincess_, suddenly popped up in my head. Oh yeah. It's been so long since we last talked to each other. I should at least ask her how she's been.

"Yaxuan?"

Her voice brought me back to reality. "Yeah?"

"Are you okay? You look like you're drugged."

I looked at her in disbelief. "Seriously? Drugged?"

She chuckled. "Do you want to check out some books as well?"

I guess I could give The Little Prince a try. She must have a good taste in books so I'll take what she's taking. "This looks interesting."

"It is!" She smiled widely. I mentally smiled at how admirable she actually was. It's just like the time when we bought cotton candy.

We went to the cashier to pay for our books and went outside the bookstore. "Are you hungry?" I asked.

"No." Too bad, her stomach betrayed her.

I chuckled. "Let's eat first. Do you have any other plans?"

She shook her head. "I guess I just really wanted to buy a book."

"Let's go to the arcade after eating."

"Okay." She smiled.

We went to a fast food chain restaurant and I asked her what she wanted but she answered with a 'whatever will do' so I ordered the same thing as mine. After eating, we decided to just relax for a bit before going to the arcade.

When we walked out of the restaurant, a stray cat was in front of the doorway and Selin immediately squatted down to pet it. "You're so cute!"

I did the same and silently watched her. "You like cats?"

"I love them." She smiled. "Yaxuan, do you mind staying here for a bit with this cute cat?"

I nodded. "Where will you go?"

"I'll buy food from the restaurant. This'll be quick." She went back in again and I watched her fall in line.

I looked back at the cat and petted it. "She gets prettier every time she does something unexpected." The cat meowed and rubbed its head on my hand. A small smile escaped my lips. Maybe this cat agrees.

A few minutes passed and she came back with 4 pieces of chicken nuggets. "Here you go." She smiled as she placed the box down for the cat.

She stayed there, just squatting down as she enjoyed watching the cat. I stood up and just watched her talk to the cat. I chuckled at the sight of it, and it seemed like she heard me.

She looked up at me. "What?"

"You look admirable when you do nice things." She looked down and stood up. "Did I say something wrong?"

She shook her head slowly and looked at me. "I think you should lessen the way you treat me, yeah?"

"Is something wrong?"

"It's just that... how do you say this? Some people might misunderstand us even more. Isn't that why you hired me? Because there was a misunderstanding between the two of us?"

"That issue's almost gone. Don't worry. Are you worried about me?"

"Yes. I don't want to end your career because of me or because of that issue."

I felt a smile slowly creeping on my face so I pursed my lips. She does care about me. "Don't worry about me. You'll get wrinkles, and you'll be ugly. Do you want that?"

"I don't care if I get wrinkles, I just want you to be safe from harm."

I chuckled. I took off her cap and ruffled her hair. "I won't, as long as you're my personal assistant."

Once we got into the arcade, it was loud. A lot of people were everywhere, playing different games. Selin saw claw machines and walked towards them so I followed.

"Yaxuan, look." She beamed. "Isn't that plushie so cute?" She pointed at the jellyfish plushie.

"Do you want to get it?"

"I don't have luck when it comes to claw machines." She chuckled.

"I'll get it for you." I inserted a coin and did my best to concentrate. I think it would really make her happy if I got her the plushie.

She watched me as I tried to use strategies. She looked intently on the claw as it moved down. We both waited for it to close. Luckily, it got the jellyfish plushie.

Selin jumped with so much joy and shook me by the shoulders. "You got it!"

I took the jellyfish plushie and gave it to her. She happily accepted it and still wouldn't stop jumping.

I just watched her with a smile on my face as she continuously thanked me for it. I wouldn't really mind giving it a hundred tries if I wasn't able to get it the first time if this is the reaction I'll get. Her reaction is just too precious.
