~Last time~

"Alright, Let's do this I guess."

~This time~

"Sans, c-could you extract her soul w-while I gather the materials?" Alphys asked Sans as she fumbled around the cart.

"sure thing, alph," Sans said as he rested his hand on your sternum. You then felt a gentle warmth as Sans used his magic to pull your soul from your chest. Before you, you saw your red soul with the black gunk forming over the top. Sans looked at it with his now common look of concern, but he stepped back seeing as Alphys cleared her throat signifying that she found the necessary equipment.

She pulled from the lab equipment a test tube and a dropper. With your goop covered soul out of your chest, Alphys carefully used the dropper to collect a small sample of the goop. She then proceeded to put it into the test tube to observe its consistency. She attempted at swishing it about, but it seemed firmly in place, as if once removed from your soul it resorted to making itself concrete. "Mhm... Th-This definitely is a strange ph-phenomenon... I-I'll have to t-take this elsewhere for f-further experimentation. S-Sans f-feel free to stay here a-and keep (Y/n) company." Alphys said as she proceeded to walk away. "O-Oh, And could you s-set up the heart and soul m-monitors for me?" Alphys turned back to ask Sans.

"of course," Sans said as he got a small screen from the bottom rack of the cart and an expandable pole. Before Sans went into assembly, he put the equipment on the ground and then he put your soul back in your chest. Sans then rested a hand on your shoulder and spoke, "just relax sweetheart, alphys is smart, and even though what we just witnessed with the goo was indeed troubling i'm sure alph will come up with something. so just lay down and relax, i'll be right here with ya." Sans then kissed your forehead and you nodded and laid down in response.

While Sans assembled the heart and soul monitor, you pulled the sheets up over yourself and watched Sans work. Once the monitor was set, Sans attached a few wires to it, one to plug in the wall and one that would go from the heart monitor itself to your finger. "can i have your right hand for a sec, sweetheart?" Sans asked as he held the end of the wire that would clamp onto your right finger.

You nodded your head as he held your hand in his and mumbled out a sure. Sans gave you a soft smile of reassurance as he took your index finger and clamped the finger heart and soul monitor to you. "...so... how exactly is this supposed to monitor my soul?"

"well, while the machine processes I'll go ahead and tell you," Sans said as he sat at your bedside. "basically, the soul for monsters is like the heart for humans. with you having both the heart and the soul, this particular model was updated from human technology and monster technology, so it can gather information from both. souls themselves are kind of like the human heart when it comes to beats, but the soul itself resonates rather than beats. also, like you're typical heart monitor this will scan your heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and your body temperature. as far as your soul is concerned, it's actually quite different. your soul is kinda getting scanned, it shows its resonating scale, pressure scale, and for humans their determination levels. due to your soul being of determination, i'd say you're supposed to have quite a bit." Sans explained to which you tried to process but it was just too much.

"Sans... you just blew my mind," you said in utter confusion as you shook you're head. The machine then made two beeps making Sans chuckle slightly.

"heh, well the machine is done processing so i'll just show you." Sans then got up and wheeled it over to your point of vision so you could read the screen. He then proceeded to point out the different lines and numbers on the screen. "you see, the screen itself is divided, the left side being your heart monitor and the right being of the soul. i assume you already know the heart stuff, so i'll just explain the soul. this one in white at the top of the screen is your resonating scale. hm... seems to be within the norm, although it is on the lower side of the spectrum..." Sans hummed in thought for a moment before continuing.

"... anyway, this here below it is your souls pressure scale, i'm not entirely for sure how much pressure the human soul can take, but I know it's a lot less than monsters and your current pressure is at 249 newtons when the norm would be 9.81 due to just the nature of earth's gravity... hm... we should really keep that in check..." he then mumbled some more stuff you couldn't quite here.

You hummed in confusion as a response making Sans snap out of it. "o-oh sorry, anyway, this next one is your determination levels... it seems... very... strange..." he said as he observed the screen closer. "i uh... i dunno what to say about this other than it shouldn't be gradually dropping. it seems to drop, on average, a little less than a percent per hour, but still, it shouldn't be doing that nonetheless." You could tell that while Sans was reading the screen his concerns for you were growing significantly. You'd be lying if you said you weren't growing heftily concerned as well.

Alphys's POV

Entry Number 1

I will be basing my logs for this particular subject area on subject 13, aka (Y/n), and my former knowledge on the human anatomy:

The human soul can withstand 20 Newtons of force per HP (so for the case of 13: 400 Newtons) without taking damage. Any further than that would be critical to the soul.

Although it has to be directly to the soul itself, due to the human body being able to withstand 4,000 newtons. As long as the soul is in the human body it's protected from whatever ailments of force are on the outside.

However, the soul incased in goo in or out of the body will receive pressure due to it being in constant direct contact on the soul.

I need to figure out whatever it is the liquid/solid is doing to her soul, but first I need to study the current damage in subject 13 or else I won't progress in this endeavor.
