After lunch, the two girls got to sit together in their shared afternoon classes but didn't do much talking, fortunately for Kate, she was indeed hopelessly behind on everything that had been taught until then, while Lissa was only two years behind.

The stares Lissa had mentioned at lunch certainly did follow them, but Kate found that the more she talked to people, the more they warmed up and slowly, gradually, they seemed to accept her in the Academy.

On the contrary to her, Lissa stared straight ahead, listening but neither acknowledging nor participating in Kate's attempts at conversation, she didn't blame Kate for wanting to get to know people, she knew how she felt, at home, not a freak, well at least completely, but Kate could feel anxiety and sadness pouring out of her best friend.

"All right," Kate stated out of the blue when classes finally ended, the two stood outside the building, and the brunette was fully aware that in doing so, she was already breaking the terms of my agreement with Kirova.

"We're not staying here." Kate told her, looking around the campus uneasily, checking for any stray eyes or suspicious people that may be spying on them "I know I said I'd try, but you are clearly not comfortable here, so I'm going to break us out." she said, grabbing Lissa's hand and pulling her closer to her.

Lissa looked surprised with Kate's words, not because she didn't expect them, but because she did, Lissa was surprised that despite feeling Kate start to feel comfortable and less stressed at the Academy, she hadn't expected Kate to be ready to break her out before the first 24 hours were done.

"Maybe, maybe we should stay." Lissa countered softly, her eyes casting to their feet making the brunette blink in astonishment and confusion.

"What?" Kate breathed out, her best friend's reaction throwing her completely off.

"I saw you, Kate. I saw you talking to the other novices during class, talking about practice. You want that, you want to belong." Lissa confessed mumbling, looking down at their shoes, looking much like the young Moroi she was instead of the Head and last member of her family.

"I don't want it, Lissa." Kate argued, reaching forward to rub the blonde's arm. "I just want to be able to protect you, I just want to be fully trained, I want to make sure that you can live a normal-ish life. And I can't give you that if I don't train, if I don't completely understand your world."

"It might be better." the blonde countered. "I haven't felt like anyone was following or watching me."

"It hasn't been a whole day- night, so it's too soon." Kate argued once more, knowing how Lissa felt before she had left the Academy, she'd always felt like someone was following her, like she was being hunted and although Kate had never been there to help, in Lissa's memories she could see that Lissa had once heard one of our teachers go on and on about the same sort of thing.
