"Hello, is this Ms. (y/n)?" A strange voice said over the phone. You sat up in bed, looking at the clock and seeing it was close to midnight. You hadn't been able to sleep since Levi still hadn't returned from work, and you were starting to fear the worse. This call seemed to be confirming your worries.

"Y-Yes." You manged to choke out.

"There was a bus crash that your fiance was in this morning. He just got out of surgery and we were finally able to identify him when he woke up." The voice explained. You could have sworn that your heart stopped at that moment. The voice gave you the name of the hospital and you quickly rushed over.

You walked up to the front desk, your heart pounding. The woman there gave you a reassuring smile, as though what was going on wasn't nearly as bad as you thought.

"I'm here for Levi Ackerman." You said a bit frantically.

"Room 102." She answered, pointing down the hallway. You nodded and said a quick thank you before heading down the hallway.

When you found the room, you took a deep breath to try to recollect yourself. You knew you were going to have to be the strong on in this situation. You didn't want to worry Levi anymore with you getting overly emotional. You slowly opened the door, preparing for what you might see.

He had a black eye and a huge cut on his lip. His left arm had been bandaged from a gash he got from the glass of the window slicing him. Other than that, all he had were small cuts and bruises scattered around his body. But he still looked like he was in bad shape. He had a small machine pushing oxygen into his lungs, and a bunch of other things pumping him full of pain killers.

"Levi?" You called softly. He looked up at you.

"I'm sorry." He said. You shook your head, and walked into the room. You sat down in the chair next to the bed and took his hand.

"You didn't do anything wrong." You assured him. He just looked straight ahead and took a deep, shaky breath.

"Petra, Eld, Gunther, and Oluo all died. Erwin lost his arm and is in a coma. I have multiple organ failure..." He trailed off for a moment. "I'm dying, (y/n)..."

You didn't want to believe what you were hearing.

"Can't you get an organ transplant?" You asked desprately. He shook his head.

"I need too many. And I'm near the bottom of the organ transplant list because of it." He answered, "I'll be gone in a few hours." You could see small tears collecting in his eyes. You wanted to cry as well.

Your head dropped down. You just stared at your lap for a few moments.

"Remember when we first met? You came into my office and started bossing me around." You said, tears in your eyes but a small smile on your face as you remembered it.

"And you decided you wouldn't put up with my crap, so you called me a 'short bastard'." He chuckled for a second, but it turned into a painful cough.

"I don't think it was the best insult. I am shorter than you." You said. You gently played with his soft raven locks. You gently smiled.

"I knew you were different then. Not many newbies insult their higher ups." Levi said. You nodded. "You're strong, (y/n). You're brave."

"I'm not as strong as you..." You looked down at the ground a bit shamefully. Levi weakly lifted his hand, caressing your cheek and positioning your head so you would look at him. You saw so much more emotion in his eyes than you ever had before. But even though he looked broken, he still seemed strong.
