"YOU'LL love it there, Alyna. This will be our new beginning."
That's what my mom told me a week ago.
Dad died when I was nine and my mom did her best to raise me on her own. She worked to the bone to feed me and send me to school. She bought me clothes to wear. And everything she did, she did it for me. I became her world.
Not until he met him...
"We'll be there soon," Harold told us.
I opened the car window and felt the wind rushed to my face. The smell of the countryside passed through my nostrils which I find extraordinary. The mix of the smell of grass and animal excretes made my nose cringe and refreshed at the same time.
I looked up at the clear blue sky. There's a bit of scattered fluffy clouds soaring into the sky that looks like cotton candies. I can also see cows from afar, and green land as far as I can see.
"Alyna, are you excited to see our new home?" my mom asked me; her gaze met mine in the rear-view mirror.
A simple smile is all I could reply.
I'm not too ecstatic to move. My lifetime friends are way back into the city. There are no malls here nor amusement parks. And worst, no computer shops.
After a few turns, a shabby two-storey house surprised me.
"We're here! Welcome to our home sweet home!" Harold exclaimed.
I got off the car and stared at the old house.
I bet, if it's nighttime now, anyone can mistake this for a haunted house, I thought.
The wood on the walls looked old and almost rotten. There are flowerless vines growing in its roof and into the corners of the house. The windows are all secured with planks of wood hammered into it, making it impossible to see what's inside. And the nearby trees added up to its sinister look.
"What do you think? Don't you think this place is perfect for a great start?" my mom asked me and I can only give her a weary smile.
When we entered the house, Harold immediately told me where my room is so I went straight there.
The house is not as bad as it looks outside. It's quite spacious and clean.
My room has a single window and a bath of my own. I have two large cabinets and a single bed, too.
I immediately unpacked my luggage and started organizing my things. I don't have too much stuff so the unpacking went quite fast.
When I was done, I went down to help my mom set her things up...
But when I saw her making out with Harold, I immediately and quietly run outside the house, not letting them notice that I saw them.
I took a stroll around the house. There are lots of tall trees in our backyard since our place is near the forest.
Hands tucked on my pockets, I walked through the forest; my gaze exploring the surroundings. There was nothing else but trees and fallen leaves...
Not until I saw something curious.
I rushed to the shack I saw with excitement in my eyes; excited to see what things were kept inside.
Its rusty door handle doesn't have a chain and lock.
