RAIN started to fall when Patrick reached the bus stop. The rain is pouring hard.

His eyes wondered at the corner of the waiting shed. A girl in a white cottony dress was quietly sitting at the end of the bench. He looked at his watch. Eleven fifty-three.

Seems like I'm not the only one getting home late, he thought.

After a few minutes, the bus finally came. The rain continued to fall.

Patrick boarded the bus hurriedly.

He abruptly looked back when the bus's door immediately closed after he entered the vehicle.

He saw the girl still sitting at the bench.

Guess she's not riding the bus, he thought as the girl's image grew smaller and smaller.

ON THE NEXT three nights, Patrick always sees the girl at the same spot, wearing the same dress. She just sits there quietly and playfully runs her fingertips at the pouring rain.

When the bus comes, the girl was always left behind.

On the fourth night, it was raining again just like the other nights. And the girl is also sitting at the same spot.

Before Patrick could even sit, he saw the bus coming already.

"Are you taking the bus?" he asked the girl. She shook her head.

Patrick took another look at the girl. She doesn't have anything with her—a bag, not even an umbrella.

"If you want, you can use it," he offered her, handing his umbrella.

The girl was speechless by his sudden kindness. But before she could even refuse, Patrick left the umbrella open at her feet and then boarded the bus.

The door closed. Patrick looked at the girl again.

To his surprise, she was looking at her too—smiling.

A weird sensation traveled through his veins. It was like his heart was tickled by something and his lips automatically curled into a smile.

He can't help smiling as he savor the memory of that angelic face.

I can't wait to see that smile again, he thought.

AS THE CLOCK struck at eleven fifty-three, Patrick arrived at the waiting shed. The girl is already sitting at her usual spot.

Patrick's lips automatically curled into a huge smile.

He immediately sat at the center of the bench.

Patrick took a deep breath. He took a glimpse of the mysterious girl. She was busy watching the rain. Then, the girl stretched her right hand out and let it be drenched with the cold rain.

"Are you also waiting for the bus?" he finally asked.

The girl stopped playing with the rain and turned to him. "No, I'm not taking the bus," she said.
