Mariah's POV
Key was being secretive about everything. Currently, I was walking around gripping tightly to his hand. Why did I let him place the blindfold over my eyes?
We walked for a few more minutes, and then we stopped.
"Are you ready?" He whispered in my ear? His breath on my neck, made shivers runs down my spine. I couldn't even speak; all I could do was nod.
When he removed the blindfold, before me was the most beautiful sight that my eyes have ever seen.
"You did all this for me?" I couldn't believe that he went to such lengths to make tonight special for me."Of course it's for you. Didn't I tell you that I was going to spoil you?"
"Why is it you mission to spoil me"
"Because you are mine. I planned to do this later in the night, but now just seems right."
We sat on the rug that was laid out. He pulled a jewelry box out of his pocket. It looked like it could be a ring box, but why would he buy me a ring? Maybe it was a pair of earrings, that was more likely.
He opened the box and there sat a ring. My heart began pounding in my chest. Yes, I liked Key don't get me wrong, but we barely knew each other. What the hell was he thinking? I hated to have to break his heart, but neither would I lead him on.
He grabbed my hand and said, "Firstly, let me put you at ease, I'm not proposing. I like you, but that would be moving extremely too fast. Instead, I want to ask you to wear this ring. My parents bought it for me when I was 13. My father said it was a symbol of a change in responsibility. He told me that I was now my own person, and I was free to make my own decisions. He said that as a part of growing up, I have to make my own decisions and live with the consequences. I choose you. I want to get to know you better, as more than just a mere acquaintance. Will you please wear this ring as a symbol allowing me to spoil you until my heart is content?"
It was a great gesture. All of this was beautiful, but I not him to spell it out.
"This ring is nice, but what does it have to do with making your heart content?"I asked with a raised brow
"You're really going to make me spell it out, aren't you?"
I just smiled at him and winked.
"I want you to be mine. I want you to be my girl, and I will be your guy. What do you say?"
"Yes, I replied."
He pulled me close and kissed my forehead. Then he slipped the ring on my middle finger. It was a bit big, so that was the only finger it would fit on.
"Now, since you have made me extremely happy, I was hoping to return the favor by giving you this."
He pulled out another jewelry box, but before I could get a good look at what was inside, he turned me around and put it around my neck. It was a beautiful necklace. I loved the simplicity of it.
"Let's eat."He pulled a picnic basket and sat it next to us. Once he empties the contents of that basket, he pulled out a few more. When he was done, there was a feast laid out before us. For 3 hours we just sat on the beach enjoying each other's company.
Soon I began to grow tired and Key noticed. We packed up the picnic and made our way back to the plane. Once on the plane, Key encouraged me to rest.
It seemed as if I had just closed my eyes, and then Key was waking me up. He walked with me to the car and once I was secure inside, he went into the house.
I dozed off again, and then I heard someone calling my name. When I opened my eyes, Chance was looking at me with a panicked look on his face. He told me that our parents were on the phone.
I took the phone from him and began to talk to my mom. She was just making sure that Chance actually was with me. Apparently, he had used that excuse before. Finally, we said our goodbyes and I settled back into my seat.
Key drove Chance and me, back to my house. He woke me up and walked us to the front door. I vaguely remember telling him I enjoyed the date. He kissed me on my forehead and told me to get some rest.
I closed the door and stumbled to my room. Chance could take care of himself.
