Mariah's POV
The ballet was beautiful. I wonder how he knew that I loved the Nutcracker. This was a side of Key that I had never seen before. He was funny and caring... He really seems to pay attention to me, like what I am actually saying.
While watching the ballet, I held his hand in mines. It just felt right. Throughout the performance he was very attentive. At one point, he brought my hand to his lips and placed a kiss on it.
I could feel myself blushing. Somehow he was the only one that could make me blush. It wasn't the things he said but the way he said things. Sometimes he said things with so much sex appeal, he could embarrass a prostitute. Other time he said things with so much tenderness, it was as if her were trying to melt your heart.
He was just all kinds of confusing. I really didn't want to like him. I know his type. He's not looking for a committed relationship, just another hookup to add to his list. Unfortunately it was that tender side, the side that she was introduced to when he would text her, that made her like him so much.
Soon though, I know that I will have to put some space between us. It would be so awkward to be around him; if he knew that she liked him but didn't return the feeling. I mean, I plan to have a long friendship with Leya, and that awkwardness could potentially transfer to their friendship and cause it completely vanishes.
After the performance, they walked back to the car. Once again, Key held the door open for Mariah.
"I have a surprise for you."
"It better involve food. You promised me food."
"Is food the only thing on your mind woman?"
"Maybe."
"Well damn, you're stuck on eating food, but I was thinking about eating you."
"You asshole, always trying to ruin something with your dirty mind. I refuse to take part in your version of friendly banter without food."
"Did you skip a meal today?"
"Maybe. After all, I did spend the day with your sister getting ready for a date that I knew nothing about. You know that Marley has a one track mind and she is anal about making sure that everything is just so."
He had the nerve to chuckle, "Alright, let's go get some food."
We drove to the nearest McDonalds, and he ordered over half the menu. Listen, I can eat and all, but I'm not going to eat that much. To my surprise, he gave me a kid's meal.
What the fuck am I supposed to do with a kid's meal? Key took one look at my face and began to laugh. The more he laughed the angrier I became. So he thought this was funny? Just when j was about to sucker punch him, he pulled my hand to his lips and said, "It's just a snack for now. I promise when we get to our destination, you will be happy that you waited.
I grumpily pulled my hands from his. This barely qualified as a snack.
"There better be at least 6 chicken nuggets in this happy meal."
We continued our journey in silence. I was shoving food down my throat and he was as focusing on the road. I don't know why he was so focused, all I saw were trees, trees, oh a squirrel, wait no that was a branch, and more trees.
We turned down a gravel road. Things were beginning to feel a bit spooky. We were on an abandoned gravel road, in the middle of nowhere, and there was no one else in sight.
It's a good thing my dad bought me a small blue pistol for my 16th birthday. It was small enough to fit in my purse, so I brought it everywhere. I hope he wasn't planning to try something because my dad made sure I knew how to hit a target.
After about 15 minutes, the trees began to disappear. We pulled into this long driveway. Was this his home?
"So, here is my home. Before you try to stab me, no I'm not being presumptuous. I have to grab something out of the house and then we can head out."
I followed him into the house and it sounds like a party was in full swing.
"Leigh is dead. I took the back entrance because I knew she was going to try something like this."
He walked over to the stereo system and pushed a button. The music went off and you could hear his voice on the intercom.
"Arleigh Marie Monroe, please make your way to the southern entrance. Everyone else, please stay where you are, your parents have been notified."
After he uttered the last sentence, all hell broke loose. I spotted a familiar figure trying to pass me. I grabbed a hold of his jacket and spun him around.
"Going somewhere little brother?"
Chance stopped and gave me his biggest smile. "Hey sis, think you can give me a ride home? Dad took my keys again."
My 15 year old brother seemed to conveniently forget that he did not have a license. Instead he would just go ahead and drive around at his leisure, it always came as a surprise to him when he was pulled over by the cops and my dad took his keys.
"Sorry bro, no can do. See, I didn't drive. "
"It's all good, when you leave I can leave too."
"She's leaving with me, but she's not going home."
"And.......who are you?"
"Hi Mark," Leigh sauntered in the room.
"Arleigh, just the person I was looking for. I remember you asking if you could have a few friends over tonight. I asked you if there would be boys involved and you said no. I asked if it would be a large gathering, to which you also said no. I stop by with bags of food and there is a party in full swing."
"Mark, it was supposed to be small I swear. Then word got out that I had this huge house to myself tonight, and that I could invite a few friends over, and
well.....""We will save this discussion for later. Right now, you need to get rid of your company except 2 friends. They must be female."
"So Rye, please tell me you will call me a ride."
"You can be my cleaning service eat the shop for a week and I will give you an air tight alibi. I will just txt Mom and let her know that you are spending the night with me."
"Wait, for a week, that's a long time?"
"Well Chance, you just have to decide how important this is to you."
"Fine."
"Can you please let him stay until we get back?"
"It will be a while.... Guess I can set him up into the game room..."
"And where might you be going, sister dear?"
"The same place that you went if Mom asks, nowhere."
I winked at him as Key grabbed my hand and made his way to the game room.
"This is the game room. There is a bathroom through the door to your right. The room is soundproof, so you won't have to hear the layers girl gossip. There is a mini fridge, fully stocked in the corner. There is a dry erase board on the door, if you eat it all, just write it on the list so I can get more."
