Death is very silent when she strikes. Those who play with her are quick to find their demise. So we are taught to avoid her games.

Humans crave eternity because our time is limited. We're here today and the next we're gone. Yet we are easily sidetracked by our earthly needs that we forget the joy from a warm embrace, or a friendly smile. Even just a small nudge to remind you you're not alone. We forget how much a life means to us until he's finished his dance with Death, and Death is always the victor.

If I had been more wary of these things, if I had the courage to speak my mind, maybe I could've voiced these words to him. As I look down upon my friend, I realized I would never enjoy his embrace. I would never see his twinkling eyes or his brilliant smile. My friend died, and so did my Hope.

"Peter Parker, age 26, found dead in an underground construction site."

I recall being out with friends when the announcement went public. "That can't be," I told myself. "He promised me a movie date with popcorn, extra butter," I yelled to my friends, not minding the shock they were currently in.

I raced to his place, ignoring all the signals thrown at me like the police cars and yellow tape. I ran past them all, and didn't stop until I found Aunt May. My body froze at the sight of her balling in the arms of our neighbor Mary Jane Watson. Her natural red hair complimented her swollen red eyes. I felt Death's strike.

The ceremony for his burial took place the next morning. Everyone wore black, so did I. Only those within his general circle were allowed into the cemetery for the occasion. Peter would've been so proud to see the millions of fans gathered at the gates, dressed in blues and reds, faces masked but eyes brimming with that Hope.

Aunt May and Mary Jane each paid their respects to our fallen hero. I had my speech on me but at last, I failed to find the voice to speak out. Peter would've been ashamed of me, just as I am.
