Liz turned to me, her furrowed brows conveyed the annoyance she felt toward my singing. "Whatever it is your humming, stop!"I shut the book on my lap and neatly tucked it away in my school bag. I did so quietly without further disturbing the young girl typing away at her laptop.
"For your information," I stood up once I had my items all in one place, "it's a song recommendation from dear Miles."
"Since when do you two spend time together?"
I shrugged as I slipped the bag straps over each shoulder. I took out my phone and earphones, popping an earbud in each ear. My thumb smashed against the phone screen and I waited for the first beats of the melody.
"You'll be left in the dust~!" I called out in a sing song voice before leaving Liz's dorm room.
Unlike most classmates who resided on-campus, I had to hurry home on the metro. My parents preferred it this way. I didn't have a say in the matter but I imagined it was best. The only inconvenience was having to avoid rush hour on the metro.
My home was only a distance from school, I could easily get there within 20 minutes of walking. This wouldn't be an option tonight, however, as my parents always expected me home before sunset. It was already some minutes to seven and the sun was hiding behind New York City's skyscrapers. Tonight I'd have to take the metro.
My phone blinked 7:01 p.m. by the time I boarded the next train. Luckily for me, the cab was empty except for myself. I took to the nearest window seat and dropped my bag between my legs. With the buds still in my ears I binged on Miles' recommended playlist.
The ride was going pretty smoothly except for the blinkering lights worsening my headaches. Though such was of common occurrence on New York's old metro.
Suddenly, they went off, leaving me in complete darkness except for the light from my screen phone. I remained seated for a while hoping the lights would return but they never did. The train was slowing down as well, then abruptly coming to a stop.
This was beyond freaky.
I switched my phone's flashlight on while remaining in my seat. My skin was crawling with goosebumps despite how warm it was inside the cab. I've never done so well with the dark.I couldn't bare the dark for long.
There must be someone else on this train. Hopefully someone who could solve the problem.
I reluctantly stood from my seat, phone still in hand and flashlight illuminating my path. I started off towards the door located on the west wall when, half way down the aisle, the whole cab began to move. The floor was shaking, violently trembling beneath me. My knees buckled, sending me down on all fours.
The fall cost me to lose my phone. I could only hear it crash against the cold floor surface. After I get myself out of this I'd surely have to bargain with parents for a new replacement.
It was evident that without my light source it'd be nearly impossibly to advance. I scurried around the floor, flailing and patting down the floor in hopes of finding my phone.
The search was short lived when a light flickered on from down the aisle. My eyes winced at the blaring light but it allowed me to spot my electronic device. I lunged at it without a moment to waste, hugging it close to my chest.
With my recovered device, I looked to the blinding light hoping to find my helper. It was challenging to see through the electric sparks jumping all around. Yet there was no doubt when I saw the figure of a man standing in the midst of it.
Such a thing would be surprising for any other human being but I was too familiar with this one. I knew him from the numerous occasions where he went toe to toe with Peter.
"Oh no..."
Author's note: Hello readers! I apologize for the boring chapter. I tried to keep it short and lively but I ended up hating this way more than I thought I would! However, this is essential for the story's plot. Thank you for reading and have a nice day!
