Needless to say, I keep her in check,

She was all bad-bad, nevertheless;

Callin' it quits now, baby, I'm a wreck

Crash at my place, baby, you're a wreck.

The loud sound of train tracks could still be heard over the blaring earphones. The song kept playing as I sat patiently in my seat, awaiting the train's slow stop into the metro station.

Once the doors opened I took off running. The heavyweight bag bouncing off my shoulders and my slippery black flats slowed my journey. Unfortunately there was no question of slowing down. After I passed the turnstiles by the exit, I headed south where my house was only several blocks down the road.

Needless to say, I keep her in check

She was all bad-bad, nevertheless

Callin' it quits now, baby, I'm a wreck

Crash at my place, baby, you're a wreck

Thinkin' in a bad way, losin' your grip.

My house is a twenty minute walk from the closest metro, and about a solid six minute of running at my own speed. The neighborhood was oddly quiet despite the sun not nearly being down.

As I walked past the Parker house, the remainder on my phone informed me I was officially late for dinner by fifteen minutes. Knowing this would guarantee me the full fury of my mother's wrath, I moved hesitantly towards my home door.

Screamin' at my face, baby, don't trip.

I stomped my way up the porch, lazily picking up the newspaper setting on the door mat.

"Someone took a big L, don't know how that felt," I muttered while reaching for the house keys in my pocket.

The keys rattled as I jammed the golden colored one into the keyhole and twisting until I heard a click.

Once in, I closed the door behind me and started to slip my shoes off while singing. "Lookin' at you sideways, party on tilt."

Usually mother would be jamming around the house to Beethoven while father busied himself in the kitchen with the task of dinner. However, the house was dead quiet.

"Ooh-ooh, some things you just can't refuse," as I hummed this song, I made my way to the family dinner table.

The table wasn't set. No food. No plates. It was deserted.

I pulled out the earbuds from my right ear. Swae Lee's voice continued to ring in the left one.

She wanna ride me like a cruise.

"Mom, dad!" My steps were muffled by the carpet. "Your beloved child has arrived."

No reply.

Were they just angry at me?

Did they get caught up at work? No, that couldn't be. Mom was frequently calling me to get home.

Then what?

Where could they be?

And I'm not tryna lose...

I entered the poorly lit kitchen, expecting mother and father to be seated at the table, maybe entertaining themselves with a card game or whatever they did when I wasn't around.

Instead I found a guest.

My skin crawled with goosebumps from his intense stare and taunting smile.

"Surprised to see me?" The glowing man leaned back in his seat, kicking his legs up onto the table and balancing his weight on the back legs of the chair. "I've been waiting for some time now. And it's way past your curfew."

I noticed mother's phone sitting on the table besides his feet. My stomach began to churned, not from hunger, but from the putride thought of what may have happened to my parents.

My whole body trembled with anger, fear, anxiety, confusion, and too many feelings to list. "Where is my family?" My voice was shaky and weak, but still audible to the villain at our dinner table.

Electro sat up in his seat, his feet coming down to the floor with a big thump. "Don't you worry, little doll," he stood up and strode towards me. "They'll be just fine."

His tone was everything but reassuring. But I wasn't in a position with many options. For once, the villain had me completely cornered. Electro reached his electric blue hand out to me, stroking some frizzy strands of hair away from my face.

"All will be just fine," was the last words I recall from that conversation.
