"Have a moment?"

The look in his chocolate brown eyes confirmed how startled he was by my presence. Surely one would be disturbed at the sight of a girl inside a boy's dormitory.

"I can understand if this is bad timing," I quickly added for I had not considered the boundaries I've violated by coming to this place. "We can meet some other time."

"No, no, it's fine!" exclaimed Miles. In an act of desperation, he seized me by the wrist. In the heat of the moment, he hadn't noticed what he'd done.

I was particularly thrown off by Miles' state. His whole figure was trembling, sweat beads were running down his forehead. It was a very concerning sight.

"Uh, Miles? You good?"

My voice seemed to provoke a reaction. Whether a reflex or not, his hand moved up to my shoulder. His whole body leaned into me and his face lit up with a ridiculous smirk.

In a deep voice he said, "Hey."

"Hey?" I tried not to make too much of the hand on my shoulder. "Um, can we talk somewhere I bit more private?"

The teenage boy stepped out from underneath the door frame. His vacant hand pulled the door shut behind him. I gave him a look, not to scrutinize but rather direct attention to his grasp on my shoulder. The boy finally took note and released me with an apology.

The echoing of his steps reassured me that Miles was close behind. Though I never mentioned where we were heading, Miles followed in silence, no questions asked.

It was still daylight outside, but the blazing sun was somewhat bearable with the light afternoon breeze. Pigeons were loitering the dormitory's rooftop. Our presence, nor the blazing hot sun could disturb the birds at rest.

Miles having been silent through the entirety of our walk, took it upon himself to make conversation.

"Um, why are we up here?"

I didn't bother looking back to him. I didn't need to see his face. "There aren't any cameras around."

At my statement Miles examined the area, realizing this fact for himself.

"You got your phone back?"

There was silence.

Then he spoke.

"Yes."

"Come here," I beckoned him over. "I want to tell you a something."

Miles took hesitant steps forward, still leaving a fairly noticeable space between us.

I deepened the gap by approaching the ledge. My feet trotted on the very edge of the building, but I steadied my balance. I remarked that the building wasn't quite tall, but just enough.

"One of the perks of being friends with Spider-Man," I slowly turned to Miles as I spoke. "I was never afraid of the fall."

The wind beating against my back blew in my untamed hair, sending it in all direction and making it harder to see. Yet I was certain of what I saw. Just before going over the edge, there were sparks in his eyes.

As my body plummeted along the side of the building, Peter's voice rang in my head.

Don't close your eyes.

Just breathe.

I did exactly that and only that. Everything was flashing before my eyes. It was going too fast. It was far beyond me. I couldn't make it stop. I felt no control over the situation, but I couldn't show fear. I had to bear through it. Just a little longer. Just a little more. Just a-

Everything stopped.

Instead of falling, I was dangling from the arm wrapped around my waist. Though I had expected this, a sense of relief washed over me. My rescuer tightened his grip as he began to climb back up the side of the building.

Even as we reached the rooftop, Miles held onto me. I was enveloped in his arms, his head burrowed into my shoulder. I noticed his body was trembling ferociously.

"The leap of faith," I ran my hand in his hair and patted his back to try and ease the tension in his body. "Peter always bothered me with that stupid saying. But I guess it's what you Spider-people have in common."

A sigh left Miles as he pulled away from me. "Vanessa... I'm Spider-Man."

Author's note: Gee! I've been waiting for this one for such a long time! It's pretty long, but it turned out just as I imagined. Thank you for reading. Hasta luego!
