"Not here," I stated. "The police are on their way. I don't want them meddling in our business."

My warning took the villain by surprise but knowing his intelligence wasn't superior to my own I knew he'd take the bait. It took him a while to reflect on the situation and yet he fell for my ruse.

Electro approached me and placed a hand over the top of my head.

~

"Have to admit," he chuckled while tightening the rope around my wrists, "I wasn't expecting you to go solo."

If he focused rather than flaunting his advantage on me, he'd notice how loose the knots were, thus giving me a shot at victory.

He gave the rope a last tug. "But hey! Makes my job easier."

"Are you going to kill me?"

His eyes showed surprise but the answer seemed so clear to him. "Oh, no no no no no, that would be such a waste..."

The glint in his electric blue eyes matched the ever-growing grin stretched across his face. Yet in that sinister smile lied the truth of the matter. A truth so obvious that I missed it.

Electro had no interest in murdering me, nor my family. No evil doer in this city would care about us. No, their solemn interest was in Spider-Man and disposing of him.

The only sensible reason for dragging me into the affair is to receive information they otherwise lack. My ties to the previous and current Spider-Man make me an excellent pawn in their game. The downfall is that I'm only useful alive. Alive, however, does not mean unscathed.

I'd been played. Knowing I'd go through any length to retrieve my parents, I became an easy target. This plan was well thought out and had only three possible outcomes;

First, Spider-Man takes the bait and comes to my rescue. Thus falling into the same trap which will cost him his identity and could even mean death.

Second, they force the information out of me which will still jeopardize Spider-Man's identity as well as safety.

And if either options fail, they'll resort to the last one.

Three, I'll watch my family die before I myself am disposed of. But Miles would be safe.

This was all my doing. If I hadn't been so reckless Miles' secret wouldn't be jeopardized as well as my family's safety.

"By the look in your eyes I can tell you know what's to come," said Electro, snapping me out of my pensive state. "So how about we get this show on the road."

The sparks oozing from his right hand sent a cool shiver down my spine. Goosebumps were rising on the skin of my arms while the hair at my nape stood on edge.

My eyes followed his left hand. It reached for my face and enveloped it into his palm. Between his fingers I could still make out his grotesque smile.

"You'll only feel a small zap."

A current entered my body from the head down. It started as an insignificant shock, and intensified in a matter of seconds.

I've never been electrocuted before. But even so, nothing could begin to compare to this. Excruciating torture. My brain was surely frying but yet I thought... had Peter endured this?

It hurts. A lot.

But Miles' depends on me. If I crack now then there would be no hope. The best strategy is to keep my mouth shut until they either present my parents or Spider-Man comes to our rescue.

I just want it to stop.

Does he even know such a pain exists? Would he still be Spider-Man knowing this?

This is bad.

Why does Miles do it? Why?

He really is an idiot!

Yet...

So perfect.

Endure it, V, I could hear his high-pitched voice. It was in my head but it still felt comforting.

C'mon V, you're not alone in this. He's right I'm not.

I take a deep breath before sinking my teeth down into my lower lips, drawing blood from it's dry and cracks surface.

He'll be here. I'll keep it up. And do it for him. Do it for Spider-Man. For Miles.
