I stand up, leaving the empty, stained cup on my desk and letting my computer go into sleep mode. Conan follows behind me as I make my way out of the department but not before running into Anderson and Connor.
"Reed, can I talk to you for a sec?" Hank questions, putting a gentle hand on my shoulder before I can walk any further.
"We're heading out to go look at a new case-" I begin, not really feeling like talking.
"We don't have a schedule, detective, we have time," Conan cuts me off and I huff but agree, walking with Hank towards the break room.
"So how's it going with Conan?" He asks, pouring dirty bean water into his cup.
I shrug and mumble, "not as bad as I thought it would be. He's still an ass but he treats me like a human and not some scum like everyone else does. I guess I could get used to it..."
"See? What did I tell you? You're going to be just fine, Reed," he says, taking a drink. "The offer is still on the table for you to talk to me whenever you need and it always will be. Don't forget. Now, go back to your boy toy," he chuckles.
I roll my eyes, "he isn't my boy toy."
He responds with a husky 'mhm' and walks off, Connor already at his desk and ready to suck his dick.
"Ready, detective?" Conan asks, grasping my attention away from the two. He stands in the doorway of the break room, his stance ever so perfect and his hair falling slightly in front of his forehead.
"Yeah, let's go," I walk towards him with my arms folded over my chest.
We finally make it out of the building and step inside my car, the windows fogging up a bit from sudden warmth.
-
I pulled onto the side of the road, right behind an officer's car. There was orange, holographic police tape around the yard. Few people were here, only three policemen and the witness.
I stepped out of the car, Conan doing the same. We walked forward towards the house, the officers paying no attention to us.
When we got inside, the lights were dimmed and there were little yellow cards with numbers on them by items and the body. The photographer probably got here earlier so they could leave quickly.
The smell was horrible and I pulled my shirt up to cover my nose. Conan looked towards me as I said, "be grateful that you don't have a sense of smell."
He chuckled and walked over towards the body, examining it closely.
"Please tell me you don't do that thing where you lick the blood to analyze it," I said before he could examine it further.
This time, he laughed loudly, "no, I don't. The analyzers are manually turned on in my fingertips by me when I need it. None of that tongue stuff. I guess Cyberlife decided to not make the upgraded androids look like they were psychopaths."
I sighed in relief, remembering the time at the Eden club when Connor licked thirium off of the floor to analyze it, "good."
