Chapter 18: Green eyed monster

(Just so y'all know Robin is only about 5 years older than Sam in my story)

~Sam's pov~

Patr grew to be full size pretty fast. I know the old scrolls I have said they grow fast but I didn't expect him to be fully grown in 6 months.

I have felt bad though because I haven't been able to hang out with Regina as often as when I was teaching her how to ride a horse, but I made sure to at least once or twice a week these past 2 years. Even when we moved camp and ended up being farther away.

Patr helped getting me where I wanted fast. I'm so thankful the scrolls were right about him being faithful and kind, if raised right.

He gave me a quick ride to Regina's home. A ride that would have taken my 4 days by horse only took my about a couple hours.

I was sitting underneath the apple tree waiting for Regina to show up.

"Patr stay." I commanded the sleepy Manticore.

He rolled over onto his back and wrapped himself up in his wings and fell asleep.

I decided to check the stable and I saw Regina talking to Daniel. The stable boy who has been working here for quite a while. He's probably known her longer than me.

I was going to let Regina know I was there but then I saw Daniel kiss her cheek.

I felt something drop in my chest and I felt like I should leave. I stared walking back toward the apple tree where Patr was loudly snoring.

"Patr." I shouted his name and he instantly sat up. "Come we have to go..."

"You're leaving..." I turned around and saw Regina looking disappointed.

"I'll come back tomorrow. I was coming to tell you I have a last minute mission and it makes me free tomorrow." I felt bad for lying to her. I was already planning on coming over tomorrow since Robin gave me the day free since it's my birthday.

I wasn't planning on telling her I was going to come over, because I told her I was going to be busy on my birthday.

"Promise?" She stepped closer to me and looked at me with her brown eyes. "Promise you'll come by tomorrow. I have something for you."

"I promise." I placed my hand on her arm before she gave me a hug.

"Good." She had a big smile on her face when she pulled away from the hug.

"I've got to go now or I'll be late."

Patr was up and ready to fly now and he let out a soft roar to let me know he was growing bored.

"I'll see you tomorrow Regina."

I flew off on Patr and before I knew it we were back at the camp with those who didn't go on today's mission.

I felt bad about making Patr fly all they way to Regina's and back with very little rest time, but I couldn't stay.

"Patr stay." I instructed once he landed next to my tent and he immediately fell back asleep.
