12. Cancer

"Honey" my mother says in a shaky voice.

"What mother." I ask coldly, oblivious to the situation.

"Honey I need you to come to the hospital, please"

"why?" I ask and sigh.

"I need to tell you something, please" she pleads and as much as I hate her, I have to go.

"If this is some crap I'm literally never talking to you again" I hang up and roll my eyes. I get up lazily and grab my car keys. I fucking hate hospitals.

I get off of the plane and I look at IU. "Are you hungry? We can get some food" I say and she looks at me and smiles.

"Only if you're paying" she laughs and I roll my eyes and chuckle.

"I'm hungry so I don't really care if I pay or not."

"Okay so let's go! I want chicken" she says and runs towards a small restaurant in the airport.

"What do you want?" I ask and she points to the small menu on the counter

"Anything with chicken, please"

"Okay." I pay for our meals and sit at a small table in front of the restaurant. I ordered fried rice and IU got the small chicken packet. "I can't wait to go home."

"Why? So you can see that girl? What's her name, Y/n?" She said bitterly and I raise my eyebrow.

"Yes? Is there a problem?" I provoke her and she gives me an un-even smile.

"No. Everything is fine." She says and I can see her hands fisted on the table.

"Um, okay.." I trail off and she looks away. "It was a fun trip, thank you." I say, feeling the tension and she looks at me blankly.

"It's okay" is all she says before the food comes. I clear my throat and look at her stuffing her face. Did I upset her?

I make it to the hospital and check my phone, my mother texted me the hospital room and I shook my head and got out of the car. She's probably had a baby with my dick of a stepdad.

I walk into the hospital and find her room, as I walk down the hallway I see my stepfather outside crying. I give him a weird look and walk straight into the room.

"Mom?" I call out to her and I see she's laying on a hospital bed. "Mom are you okay?" I question. This is the first time I've actually shown concern towards her and she looks at me and weakly smiles.

"Honey, I need to tell you something." She says and her voice cracks.

I sit next to her on the bed and she takes my hand in hers. "Mom what's going on?"

"Honey, I-I" She takes a deep breath and her eyes tear up. "I have cancer" she says and clears her throat.

Words get stuck in my throat and my hands starts to shake, I'm on the verge of tears and her grip tightens on my hand. "I'm so sorry, I-I should've done something. I-I-" she cuts me off.
