Prologue

Have you ever just sat and asked why are things so complicated my life has never been easy. "Riya you can't continue to run and hide how many times do I have to tell you I'm not go hurt you but if you feel me like I feel you then act like stop being scared" I couldn't help but be scared I mean especially with everything I been through she still don't know the half of it. Before I confuse yall even more let me tell you what's going on at this moment me and Nick are arguing about my feelings for her "You just don't understand Nick how can you love me and you don't know me" "We been friends since middle school Riya I was your first kiss remember how don't I know you" I sighed and shook my head because I knew the only way to get her to understand was to tell her something I she should have known so long ago "Riya baby talk to me let me in you know everything about me and I can't help but feel you hiding something from me" I couldn't look her in the eyes I didn't want her to see my truth "That's because I am butter cup" I finally looked up and she was standing right in front of me.

"Can you sit down Nick and I promise to tell you everything you need to know" She was hesitant but still sat down and and sat across from her because sitting next to her I know I wouldn't be able to talk to her. "My life has always been different from the average child not because of the money but because of who my father was before we moved and things he dis when I was younger". "My father took me away from my real mother when I was five she use to beat on me just because I looked like him" "In the short couple of months one of his old enemies came back for revenge and he kidnapped me, my dad and mom got me back the same day" "My dad cheated on my mom with my birth mother krystal so my mom left while she found out she was pregnant became friends with a man name Cortez he was real nice at first my dad found out my mom was pregnant cussed her out and she left with Cortez she came back when she found out her old best friend Kennedy helped my dad's enemy rich kidnap me again" I stopped to see if she was still listening which she was.

"Rich shot my dad he was in a coma for about two weeks and that's about how long rich had me before Lea came and saved me" "My dad and my mom ended up getting back together the night of my sixth birthday my dad accused my mom of some things called her out her name and everything so she left and since he hurt my momma I left with her after she had the twins we ended up moving far away after three years of being there she ran into Cortez again after six months they started dating then after a year we moved in my dad knew so it wasn't like she did it behind his back she told me to tell him since they still weren't talking well after a while Cortez started to change" I sighed and looked in her eyes "He started to hit my mom the first time was for confronting him about something at his office and it just happened after every argument I was 11 I saw it happen twice but noticed the bruises after a argument well one day she told my uncle and my dad came we ended up moving with him". "Everything was going good I was in dance the boys were in foot ball but it all changed we were leaving practice and my mom stopped to get some food we all got out the car" I cleared my throat to keep it from cracking "When we came out the store Cortez was standing in between our car and a van another man name Mark came behind us the made us get in after dumping everything in the car" I took another deep breath "They took us all the way to Florida the first night Cortez and Mark beat and raped my mother" "You can stop Mariya" I shook my head "No you wanted to know so I'm telling you Nick" "Mark left after the first night but Cortez stayed he beat and raped my other everyday we where there while me and my brothers hid in the closet and cried" "Stop Riya" I still shook my head no "Best friends tell each other everything, one day we tried to get away and we got pretty far we were just leaving the pawn shop and that man was right at the door waiting my mother was going to make a run for it but Cortez was too fast and grabbed Jr he made us get in the car" "Soon as we got back to the apartment he made my mom go wait in the room he put a movie on for the boys and took me to the room with him" I felt my tears starting to flow "Please Riya stop" Nick begged but I was relentless "My mom begged him not to hurt me and he said he wouldn't he turned to me and said "I'm going to teach you a lesson Riya when a man says do something you do it unless you want to be punished" I started to cry and beg him it to hurt her she fought for her life until he threatened her he told her "If you keep fighting I'll kill you and use Mariya instead" at the moment all her movement stopped he tore her clothes off and proceeded to hit her I hid in the closet he threatened me Come out before I kill her he said I came out and I was go cover my eyes but he threatened me again saying I would be next" I couldn't stop the tears I looked into Nick's eyes telling her my deepest secret "Cortez made me watch I sat there at the age of eleven looking into My mother's eyes as he raped her and she cried looking right back at me as her way of telling me it's go be ok.... I still have ight mares about that night I still hear my mother's screams and cries and I always thinks that was almost me" I broke down and I couldn't stop the sob from leaving my mouth.

I felt Nick wiping my tears "So you see Nick you can't love me if you do you a fool" She smiled "Well I must be a fool then" her lips met mine and I couldn't help but kiss back she pulled back wiping my face and cupping my cheeks "I told Mariya I'm not going anywhere I can help you through the night mares and whatever pain you feel but you must first accept your self and tell your parents" I sighed and shook my head "I'm sorry Nick but I can't I don't want to disappoint them" She moved away "Well we can only continue to be friends" and walked away as I watched. I never wanted to get this far but I can't disappoint my parents especially my mom after all she's done for me I feel like I owe her my life and if that means acting normal whatever that is than so be it.
