Chapter 29

Riya...

Today was the day today I would walk across the stage and receive my diploma not only that I would be giving my valedictorian speech and to be honest I don't know what I would be saying. Right now I was getting dressed even though I couldn't wait to put on the cap and gown I think it was what I was wearing under it that mattered most. I had on my all back body suit with a sweetheart neckline and gold wings for sleeves made by keke Palmer my hair was pressed and pulled back into a bun with a part in the side and as for my shoes they were some open toe black heels. I grabbed my cap and gown I neatly put my cap on before grabbing my gold clutch and my phone before going downstairs "Ok y'all I'm ready" my mommy daddy and the twins were all sitting on the couch waiting "Ok baby come on your aunties and uncles said they would meet us there" my momma said and got up off the couch with the help of my dad. Right now my mother was kinda of miserable and in a bad mood seeing as she was three days pass due and the doctor was talking about inducing her and possibly a c-section only for the baby safety tho. After we all piled into my dads Yukon XL we were off to the graduation ceremony.

Soon we pulled up to the building the graduation was being held in I smiled. We all got out of the car and walked in as my dad locked it "Dang Riya look at you girl you look nice" I turned to see Porscha standing next to Mesh "Hey y'all Thank you y'all look cute too" they smiled "You ready to give this speech" Mesh asked I shook my head "Not really but I am ready by to walk across the stage" they nodded "I know that's right.... you seen you know who" I shook my head "Nope and I dont plan on it" I didn't tell my friends about me and Nick break up but it seemed like Sam couldn't stop talking about how she stole Nick from me word spread and the next thing I knew all my friends were calling to check up on me. We eventually put on our gowns I hugged my parents before I made my way to were we were going to be sitting.

After the principle spoke and a few others it was my turn "Without further adieu please welcome your class Valedictorian Mariya Smith" the whole graduation class stood up clapping and so did my family who I easily spotted since they were crazy enough to have signs with my name on them. I smiled out at the audience "Oh my can y'all believe we here after 4 long years" the crowd applauded "Today marks the day we become independent we leave the nest and spread our wings we may lose some friends make new friends join a fraternity or sorority but most importantly we figure out what we want to do with our lives who we want to be and learn the steps we take to get there whether you leave state or stay you get a taste of what our parents call the real world so as we walk across this stage shake our teachers hands and get our diploma that it was our parents who got us this far and now it up to us to go the rest of the distance so Congratulations class of 2015 we made it" everybody stood up clapping and cheering as I made my way to my seat.

Almost a hour had passed til my name was called and students where getting up there doing some of everything John silly butt did the nae nae. But it was now my turn to walk the stage Mariya Smith I heard a chorus of yeas but I mostly heard my mama daddy screaming that's my baby I laughed as I got my diploma and walked off stage. After another hour or two we were leaving of course I took pictures with my crew but I had to leave so I could set up for my graduation pool party. Soon as I got home I changed out of my graduation outfit and into some short blue Jean shorts a belly top and I combed my hair out the bun and put on a white and black stripe hat and I had on my red two piece under it.

When I got out side I seen the decorators already put the yellow pink and white balloons in the pool and decorated the tables. The Dj was already set up and my daddy had fired up the grill I walked back in to find my mommy. "How you feeling ma" I asked walking into the kitchen her and my aunts were seasoning meat she washed her hands and sat down "I'm so proud of you baby girl I still can't believe you leaving us in two days" I smiled "Thank you mama but I was asking about you how you feeling" she waved me off "I'm fine baby today is about you so you ready for UCLA" I nodded I decided to leave New York not because of Nick but UCLA was offering the better deal they offered a full ride including pay for my books all I had to supply was my daily needs like things for my hygiene and since I was living on campus food. "Yea I am I hope my dorm mate clean" I was rooming in a semi private dorm meaning it was like a 2 bedroom apartment and it would be me and some other chick I just hoped we got along.

Two hours in and my party was banging almost my whole graduating class was here me Mesh and Porscha and Farrah were all dancing to Usher I don't mind when a very pregnant Gabby got up and tapped me. "Whats up girl" she pointed to the gate where more guest were coming in only cause my mama wasn't letting nobody walk through her house when I looked over there only one face caught my attention I took a deep breath "Riy don't flip" I looked at Mesh looking at me worried "I'm good I ain't tripping just as long as she don't bother me I'm fine I did say everybody was welcome just didn't think she would have the balls to show up" I turned back to my girls and smiled "Let's swim". They nodded as we slipped off our sandals and cover ups before walking towards the pool I was just about to get in when I heard my name "Riya" I stopped and turned with a forced smile "Hey Nick thanks for coming there's food drinks please enjoy" I turned to walk away when she grabbed my arm stopping me "Hold up I got you something" I looked back at the gift in her hands "Give it to my dad" I moved my arm and started to walk away when she spoke "I'm sorry truly I just hope one day you forgive me" I never turned until I no longer smelled her and she was making her way in my house.

I was getting out the pool when my mom called me "Riy come here Demi got something for you" I walked over to Demi holding a cake "What is it" Demi smiled "It's a angel food cake with strawberry glaze and strawberries on top....your mom told me you like strawberries" I nodded "Yea Thank you" I grabbed it and picked up a strawberry that was drowned in the glaze and ate it. I frown d "That was tart" my throat started itching and I felt it slowly closing I coughed hard running in the house after my mom as Demi laughed "Mah" I weezed out as I coughed and held my throat I started to get lightheaded from the lack of oxygen my mom turned to me and called my dad. The last thing I remember was my dad wrapping a towel around me and him yelling at my uncle to drive that's when everything went black.
