Kavya is already outside with a man. Once we get out of the car, I walk over to greet her.
"Chase!" She greets me with a hug.
Jay greets me with a hug too.
Jay is her fiancé. They've been dating since I was twelve so I know him pretty well.
"How's your boyfriend?" Kavya asks as she leads me inside the hotel.
"He's good," I murmur with a smile.
"Please tell me you have a picture of him. I really want to know which guy has you on cloud nine."
"I'm not on cloud nine," I say, pulling out my phone.
"Righttt..." Kavya hums as I open up the photos.
"Oh hush," I chuckle and flip my phone around so she can see the screen.
"Oh my god! That's him?" She asks. "He's cute, but that little baby is even cuter!"
"That's Harper, his son."
She pauses. "Son?"
"From a previous relationship," I explain. "Stuff happened and Asher has custody of him. He calls me Mommy too."
"Asher or Harper?" Kavya asks with a smirk. "The daddy kink isn't all."
I gasp and shove her. "You are disgusting."
"Jay loves it," She cackles regaining her balance. "Especially when we turn the lights down low and do it for hours in every position imaginable."
"Kavya! You have no shame!"
"Took you a long time to realize that," She says, bumping my hip with hers. "When we get to our room, you better catch me up on everything."
"I will. You need to tell me too."
:::
"Wait, so he liked you wayyy before you even noticed him?" Kavya asks.
I roll over onto my stomach. "Pretty much, yeah. Seems ridiculous though. I mean, has he seen me?"
Kavya scoffs. "Shut up. You're gorgeous and you know that."
"Anyway, tell me about the wedding," I change the subject. "You excited?"
"Oh fuck yeah. It's Jay that I'm marrying."
"You're not nervous at all?"
"For the wedding part, I am. For spending my life with him, no."
"The wedding will go great, just don't flip out and get overwhelmed."
"I never flip out."
I raise my eyebrows. "Really?"
"Yeah. Name one time."
I clear my throat. "My parent's wedding. You flipped your shit because someone bought the wrong shade of pink for your hair ties."
"I was 12."
"That's old. Well, you're just old in general too."
Kavya gasps. "Take that back or Ill make you share a room with Nidhi."
My eyes widen. "You wouldn't."
"Try me."
My phone rings, interrupting us. I glance at the caller ID and a warmth spreads through me. Asher wants to FaceTime.
I answer my phone. "Hey, baby"
Asher's lips pull into a smile. "Hey, beautiful."
"I ain't your baby," Kavya tells me with confusion.
I roll my eyes. "I'm talking to my boyfriend."
Her mouth forms an "o" and she lies down on the bed with me.
She positions herself so she can see Asher in the phone screen.
"He's so adorable!" She coos.
"Thank you?" Asher questions.
"Harper's down there," I tell him with a grin. "That's who she's talking about."
Asher looks behind him and sees Harper peering up at him.
"Oh, hey buddy," Asher sets the phone down against something and picks up Garper. They sit down and he adjusts the phone so that we can see.
"Bye-bye," Harper says and starts to run off.
Asher holds him in place. "Look, Harp," He gestures to the phone. "Mommy's there."
Harper looks over and gives me a toothy smile. "Mommy!"
"Hey, Harp," I greet him.
"I'll be back," Kavya says, standing up.
"Where are you going?" I ask.
"Jay," She replies with a smirk.
"Have fun."
"Oh I will. You have fun too."
She leaves the room and closes the door behind her.
"How's everyone doing?" Asher asks.
"Jay and Kavya are super happy. Everyone's really happy," I say with a smile.
"What about you? How are you feeling?"
"I'm excited and happy for them, but I also miss you like crazy."
"I know, I miss you too."
My phone receives a notification. My mom texts me saying that there some guests that I need to greet and to bring Kavya.
I sit up. "Hey, baby. I have to go."
Asher pouts.
"I'm sorry. I'll call you before I go to bed, okay?" I suggest.
"Okay. I love you."
My stomach flutters. "I love you too."
It kind of sucks being at a wedding without your boyfriend, but I'll manage.
Who am I kidding? This is torture.
