"I'm so sorry, baby," Asher apologizes again.
I hug him and rub his back. "It's okay, babe."
"Bradley! Hurry up man!" Someone shouts from the bus.
"Just a sec!" Asher calls back.
"2 weeks will go by so fast," I try to assure Asher.
"That's two whole weeks, 14 days, without you," Asher tells me.
"Better give me a kiss that both of us will remember, then," I say, trying to keep it lighthearted.
Asher smiles and pulls me into a deep kiss. As we're kissing, I can hear his team cheering from inside the bus. We pull away slowly. Asher's cheeks are flushed and I'm sure mine are too.
"Dada!" Harper calls, jumping down from Jace's arms.
Asher picks up Harper and gives him a loud kiss on the cheek. "I'll be back soon, baby." He hands me Harper and gives me another quick peck on the lips. "Bye, babe."
"Bye, Ash," I say and watch him get on the bus.
Harper and I step back so that we can see Asher.
Harper starts waving as the bus begins to pull away. Soon, the bus disappears from view.
Asher forgot all about the baseball tournament that runs for 2 weeks. He remembered yesterday and full on panicked. Our 2 month anniversary is in three days and I was planning something, but I put it on hold.
"Now what?" Jace asks.
"We have to entertain Harper for 2 weeks."
"Great. You do that and I'll go hook up with this cute chick."
"Who?" I ask as we walk to my car.
"Oh this girl named Klein."
I stop in my tracks. "My cousin?!"
"I don't know," Jace shrugs.
I put Harper in his car seat. "Does she have reddish brown hair?"
"Yeah."
"Brown eyes and slightly upturned nose?"
"Yeah, I think that's super attractive about her."
"That's my cousin."
"Oh. Oops."
"Just don't do anything stupid, I guess. Her parents are a bit strict."
"Got it."
We get in the car and I start driving.
"Wait. I already fucked her, though," Jace says, loudly.
"Fucked!" Harper squeals from the back.
Oh no.
"Harper, you can't say that." I tell him.
"Fucked!" Harper repeats.
"Harp! No!"
"FUCKED!"
I glare at Jace who looks very apologetic.
:::
"Hello?" A very tired Asher answers the phone.
"Morning, sunshine," I greet him.
"That nickname's for you, babe," He says with a chuckle. His voice is husky from being woken up.
"You're the one who's always smiling, so it suits you better. I have a permanent resting bitch face," I remind him.
"You do, but I think it's super hot."
"Thanks, handsome. Anyways, happy anniversary."
"You too, beautiful," He pauses. "I miss you."
"I miss you too," I say, playing with the hem of my t-shirt.
"Is Harp okay?"
"He likes Jess and Aspen, so I take him along whenever we hang out. He loves it."
"That's good...just a second, babe. Oh hi, Coach."
I wait for the two of them to finish talking about the game.
"I'll see you downstairs at 9." Coach says.
"Yes, sir," Asher replies.
The door closes and I hear rustling.
"Babe, still there?" Asher asks.
"Yup."
"I have to go. I'll call you later?"
"Mhm. Good luck on your game."
"Thanks, baby. Bye."
"Bye."
I end the call and lay back on my bed staring at the ceiling.
It's been 2 months since Asher and I started dating. I only have a month and a half before I'm off to Houston to attend Rice. College doesn't exist in Asher Bradley's life, so he's going to stay here.
What's going to happen to us?
