Show Time

Author's Note: I hope this isn't awful. I've had serious writer's block, but I'm trying to give you all something.

Clary

I've been staying with Jace for a few weeks now. The Halloween party is tonight and I'm nervous. All of Jace's fancy work people will be there.

Knock knock

"Come in," I call.

Jace opens the door "I have your dress," Jace announces. Dress? What dress? I have to wear a dress? I can't, people will see my scars! I can't wear a dress!

"Jace, do I have to wear a dress?" I ask nervously.

Jace sets the bag with the dress on the bed and sits next to me. "Why don't you give it a look before you get so nervous. I know you don't like showy clothes Clary, I respect that," Jace says. I nod and reach for the zipper on the bag.

It's beautiful! The design on the top! And it should cover my scars! I love it! But wait, this is probably really expensive. I can't wear this. Jace should take it back..... My smile leaves my face as I continue to look at the dress. "Jace, I can't wear this. I...it's too expensive. You should just get your money back," I explain. Jace grabs my hand and our eyes meet.

"Clary, I can easily afford this dress. I wanted to get it for you. You deserve to have a nice dress," Jace responds. I really don't deserve it. I still haven't been strong enough to tell Jace. He hasn't pushed me, which I appreciate.

"I don't Jace," I look at the floor to avoid his eyes. "I don't deserve it."

Jace sighs, "How about you consider as a gift in return for you coming with me to this? You don't know how nice it'll be to finally not go to one of these parties alone." I mean, technically I'm helping him, but I would've helped him for nothing. "Clary, I can't wear it. If you won't wear it, it'll go to waste. The store I ordered it from doesn't do returns." I don't want to waste Jace's money......I guess if I wear it tonight at least it'll help Jace look good in front of his bosses? Wait, I look pregnant. What will they think when they see me?!

"Jace, what are we going to do if they mention me being pregnant?" I ask trying not to panic.

"We just tell the truth, you are pregnant. If anyone bothers you, tell me and I'll get them to leave you alone," Jace responds calmly. I nod. "Okay, now you might want to change. We have to be there in an hour." Jace goes to get ready. "I'll be in the living room. Just come down when you're done," Jace calls as he walks out the door.

Thirty minutes later

I finish the finishing touches on my outfit. I carefully walk down the stairs in wedges. Izzy and I bought them a little while ago. She wanted me to get heels, but after a broken display rack and being kicked out of a shoe store, I got her to compromise.
