CHAPTER NINE

The moment the wheels of the plane touched the tarmac, my heart started to beat frenetically. A feeling of uneasiness, a dry mouth, and a throat that felt as if it was full of needles was started to take over me.

Jake looked at me with furrowed brows, asking me if everything was ok. I replied calmly, giving him a smile that failed miserably to convince him. I'm sure he already knew why my mood changed all of a sudden but once again, he respected me.

"I'm going to pick up our luggage but first, let's find you a seat, ok?"

Jake took my hand in his and smiled warmly. I told him that I could find a seat by myself but he wouldn't take no for an answer.

"Satisfied?" I shook my head as I sat back down on the seat, folding my arms over my chest pretending to be annoyed.

"Very," he winked at me with a sideways smile on his face. "I'll be right back. Don't move."

"I'm pregnant! Not handicapped!" I howled as he mingled with the crowed, dismissing me with a wave of his hand.

It was still too early. I could go and grab Angus from Colt today! I was so excited to finally wrap my arms around my little baby boy! I wiggled in my seat excitingly, trying to catch my phone from the side pocket of my backpack.

I typed Colt's number while humming a self- composed tune, waiting impatiently for him to pick up. After a couple of rings, I finally heard Dante mumbling something before actually saying -hello-

"Why are you murmuring now?" I chuckled as I could hear the annoyance in his voice.

"Joshua is giving me a hard time, angel. When do you think you could be back to work? I miss you..."

"Oh, I bet Joshua wants to give you a hard... time!"

"Jesus, S! Are you trying to give me nightmares?"

It was like I was able to picture him right in front of me, getting goosebumps to the image of him and Joshua together. I couldn't help it, I started laughing to his gagging tone; moments later Dante started to laugh as well.

"Do you really want me back to work, Boss?"

"Valeria... you know I do. But you have to take care of my niece. That's the only reason I allowed you to leave..." he sighed, "speaking of my baby niece... what happened over there? Mr. White told me you had an accident?"

How did I forget that Jake had informed Colt about the incident? The worse part is that I didn't get to ask him about what exactly he said to him. I groaned and sighed deeply before replying to him.

"Do you really wanna have this conversation over the phone? We could just meet?"

"I really can't fly over there right now, S. One thing is for sure though, I'm not going to wait until you come back either."

"Come on Colt, I'm just a taxi drive away. It's not that bad!"

"Huh? Are you drinking, S?"

I chuckled to his confused voice, bringing my legs on the seat and wrapping my arms around them as I watched Jake approaching with our luggage on a cart and a bag hanging from his shoulder.

"I'm in Manhattan, Dante!"

"You came back?! Why didn't you tell me?!"

"Because you would want me to take your private plane and there is really no need to do that!"
