CHAPTER TWENTY
The surprises had no end... A beautiful Aston Martin with a driver dressed as if he was ready to attend a red carpet event was holding the door open for me to enter.
I gave him a smile as I tacked a strand of hair behind my ear. Soft jazz music was echoing in the interior of the car. My eyes were glimmering by the city lights as we kept roaming in the black veil of the night.
I had a weird feeling tonight. I was also still very weird about Nathan's reaction to the twin news... My heart was beating in my throat when the vehicle finally came to a stop and the driver helped me out of the car.
"Thank you," I murmured shyly.
"You're welcome, Miss. Enjoy your evening."
And with that remark, the driver left me standing in front of what it seemed to be, a very luxurious restaurant. I took my phone out while swallowing with difficulty as my fingers typed Nathan's number.
"Where are you?" I mumbled when my call had been declined.
"Miss S?"
Startled I diverted my attention to the man calling my name. The man was wearing a dark blue vest and a name tag, with hair trimmed to perfection.
He gave me a nonchalant introduction before helping me inside.
Gold, white and crème... the dominant colors of the interior of the restaurant. The sound of my heels was muffled by the velvet carpet underneath them. I bit my lip softly as I took my surroundings in.
"Allow me to take your coat."
The man gestured to me and I nodded silently in agreement. I bet by now that he could almost take me for a kind of scared animal. I thanked him as he pulled a seat for me and he vanished towards the lobby once again.
A huge room with five big round tables and candles lit everywhere. Beautiful draping curtains were framing the huge windows. Chandeliers that were shining brightly, impeccable place in every last detail.
I was sitting in the middle, fidgeting with my fingers. I was all alone in the big room, with no sign of Nathan. I texted him... called him... and he would decline me every single time.
"You look exactly like your mom," A husky, familiar voice coming from behind me alarmed me.
"He's right you know, you're stunning tonight little sis."
"Dad?! Nicholas?!"
My mouth dropped to the floor as I threw my arms around both of them, pulling them as close to me as possible. Nick groaned by my squeezing hug but resumed with a chuckle.
He carefully released himself from me, leaving me alone in the arms of a man I was so afraid to face after my fleeing event a few years ago. A veil of tears formed in my eyes, my chin was trembling dangerously.
"What are you doing here guys?"
"Aren't you happy to see us?"
My dad placed my cascading hair that were hiding my face behind my shoulders. His piercing eyes were scanning me with admiration, but his voice seemed too close to cracking.
"Dad... I've missed you so much..."
"You knew where you could find me, chickpea..." he cleared his throat while wiping a tear from my face. "Excuse me," he chuckled, "I have a really hard time blocking your mother's image from my mind while I see you."
