CHAPTER FOUR
While Jake turned the key of my- our temporary home, he cleared his throat and looked at me a bit awkwardly.
"What's wrong?" I smiled at him as I moved inside the apartment. "Do you have a date? Is that it?"
"I... no," his throaty response was interrupted by his muffled giggle.
"Then?"
"Are you sure you are comfortable living with me?"
"Sure, why wouldn't I be? As long as you are not too messy, I'm fine with it."
"Ok..."
Jake gave me a smile that didn't reach his eyes, or maybe it was just me. Maybe the fatigue of the recent events was finally getting at me. As I walked around in the apartment a bit, I was once again amazed by the luxury.
It was simply decorated, in bright pastel colors. There were two bedrooms, a beautiful living room with a huge window, a small kitchen and a very, satisfying spacious bathroom.
"How much money is this guy spending on my rent?"
"Fancy, huh?" Jake said amused while running the tips of his fingers on the fabric of the couch.
"This is too much," I shook my head in denial.
"You were living in a penthouse, sweetie..."
"I was living in a studio apartment... The penthouse was never mine, Jake."
"If looks could kill... I'd be dead by your eyes right now!"
"Oh! Was it that obvious?" I laughed as I bumped on his shoulder, moving towards a bedroom. "Choose; which one do you want?"
"Ladies first..."
"Ok, let's open the doors together?"
"Alright, I'll take the left, you take the right."
"Sounds good. On the count of three... One... Two... Three!"
I always feel like a teenager when I'm close to Jake. His presence makes me fill with lightheartedness. We both laughed as the doors swung open, allowing us to enter the rooms.
"Wow," Jake murmured from the other room.
"Wow indeed," I giggled as I took a dive into the bed.
King sized, full of cushions. Secret lights on the wall and ceiling... Luxury, luxury, luxury... As I was laying on my bed, a head popped through the door frame.
"May I?" he asked kindly.
"You may."
Jake fell flat on his back on my bed, making me jump a bit by the impact, chuckling full of amusement as if I was having my first sleep over with Emily back in college.
I turned and laid flat on my stomach with my arms folded under a cushion, sighing with pleasure to the touch of the soft fabric. Jake was laying on his back, observing the little flickering lights that were resembling the stars.
I really don't know if my hormones are controlling my brain too much already, but I suddenly had the need to apologize. I was struggling to keep my mouth shut, not wanting to break that peaceful moment when the words slipped between my lips without a warning.
"I'm really sorry, Jake. I really didn't want to get you involved in this."
I shoved my face into the pillow while I felt Jake's movements next to me. I took a deep breath and muffled a groan right before I was forced to turn around and face him.
