CHAPTER NINETEEN

"Wait... what?" Jake looked at me confused.

I was looking again and again in the monitor, wondering if I heard right. The doctor smiled at me when she pointed out to me one small beating dot, and another, almost barely visible behind the other.

"Let me check again," she grinned at me, as she rolled the device on my tummy, taking pictures of it every now and then. "Yeah, they are definitely two! You're having twins!"

My mouth dropped to the ground as my eyes widened. I wanted to talk but I was so astonished that no word would come out. I looked at Jake who licked his lips and smiled at me, while scratching his head confused.

"How is it possible that the doctor hadn't see the other?" I mumbled, checking again the screen.

"It's really, really small, hiding very well behind the other little tenant. I'm afraid I can't tell you the gender yet. We'll need a bit more time since those two need to get a little bigger."

"Two... twins," I whispered.

"Congratulations!" the doctor replied excitingly. "Any twins in your family?"

"Their dad..." I mumbled.

"Two birds, one stone," she smiled as she wiped the gel off of me after she finished running some more tests.

I thanked the doctor and booked my next appointment, still unable to realize that my little chickpea is actually... chickpeas. Jake was running his fingers through his thick, black hair when he decided to talk to me.

"Are you freaking out?"

"I..." I paused, frowning.

"You're freaking out," he chuckled.

"We've bought furniture," I started to laugh, making Jake to look at me as if I was a mad woman. "We bought furniture for our kid!"

"That's great, sweetie," he smiled softly at me, still wondering what was running in my head. "You can add one more crib, it's not that big of a deal."

"That's not the issue Jake..."

"What's the issue? Actually, you know what? There is no issue! Instead of one little miracle, you're having two, sweetie!"

"Yeah but... I don't know how Nathan will take these news, Jake."

"If he doesn't piss himself, S, you should reconsider living with him! I'd be freaking ecstatic to have two kids to the..." he paused, hesitantly resuming, "woman I love."

"Stop being so good to me," I mumbled as I slithered between his arms, hugging him tightly.

"I'm just stating facts..." He whispered, planting a kiss on the top of my head, squeezing me back even more.

"So..." I muttered, "do you think you could drive me to the penthouse?"

"I don't have a car, sweetie."

I grinned at him and pointed to his bike, striding fast towards it. Jake raised his eyebrow and pursed his lips together while I was a having a short, on the spot happy dance.

"This will do," I smiled big at him, trying to convince him.

"No! What? No!" Jake placed his hands on my arms, pulling me towards a taxi.

"Why not? Come o Jakey!" I fluttered my eyelashes and pouted as if I was Puss in Boots.

"Stop that thing," he grunted, still pulling me away whenever I was taking a step closer to the bike.
