CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
I woke up entangled in the sheets and duvet, squeezing softly my pillow. Nathan must have carried me to bed because the only thing I remember was us, cuddling on the couch, watching the snow fall.
I stretched and turned around facing my disappointment when I realized that Nathan's side was empty. I pouted and groaned as I put on a cardigan and a pair of fluffy socks.
"Nate?"
I mumbled as I tiptoed my way to the bathroom. I knocked slightly on the door without getting a response. I quickly brushed my teeth and checked the time. It was still pretty early.
As I moved outside of our room I could smell a hint of cinnamon in the air, mingled with that of butter. My stomach growled, instantly responding to the delicious smell coming from the kitchen.
My heart fluttered to the view of Nathan's shirtless back. His sweatpants were riding low on his hips, gluing and emphasizing his butt. I moved quietly towards him, taking in the beautiful picture in front of me.
Nathan tensed and startled when he felt my arm wrapping around his waist, my hand moving slowly upwards towards his chest. He look at me over his shoulder and grinned softly as I placed a tender kiss between his shoulder blades.
"Good morning, angel," he whispered as he took the pan off the fire and turned around to face me. "Why did you get up?"
"I didn't like seeing your side of the bed empty," I murmured.
A smile stretched his lips as he slowly licked his lips, hypnotizing my eyes in a mere second. He wrapped his arms around me before picking me up and placing me on the counter.
His lips softly caressed mine, spreading pleasurable shivers all over my body. I cupped his face, showering it with kisses when my growling tummy broke the spell, forcing a hearty laugh out of Nathan.
"Sorry," I muttered slightly embarrassed.
"Why are you sorry?" He whispered between my lips as he grabbed a plate. "I wanted to bring you breakfast in bed, but your nosy ass had to get up."
"I was wondering where you have been... I'm not nosy."
"You are," he chuckled, "but you're my nosy."
I folded my arms in front of my chest and pouted, pretending to be offended. Nathan looked at me, raising an eyebrow as he served three fluffy pancakes with maple syrup and nuts.
"Take a sit and stop pouting. Would you like milk or juice?"
"Milk," I replied as I happily wiggled on the kitchen's stool.
"You know what?" he murmured as he took a look in the fridge, "you're having both. You need a larger vitamin intake."
"Jake number two..." I muttered.
"Excuse me?"
Nathan's face suddenly changed, darkened. I understood in an instant that we were still walking on thin ice, and such a little, meaningless compare could blow up in our faces.
"Jake was forcing me to eat only healthy stuff, Nate. No burgers, no coffee, no drinks..." I sighed deeply, resting my cheek on my hand.
"Do you miss it? Him?" He groaned softly as he placed my breakfast in front of me, a huge, deep cut forming between his brows.
"How could I miss him when I have you by my side?" I whispered as I placed my hand on his, stroking it with my thumb.
Nathan took a deep breath and sighed. His gaze came back to mine softer than it was before. My muscles relaxed when I saw the tension leaving his beautiful face, allowing his hazel eyes to sparkle again.
