“Don't be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.”

Jade's pov

I walked towards Damien's car with Aaron and bend low as he drew down a window.

“ Hey bro ”, Aaron said.

“Hey”

“You don't mind if I tag along right?”
“uh...”

“ Great thanks buddy”

Damien didn't say anything. He just waited till we sat in the car and drove us.

The awkward silence was unnerving. I glanced at Aaron who was sitting at the back and wondered if it was a good idea to let him tag along. What was I thinking?

I knew it was going to get that awkward.

We arrived at MacDonald's and noticed the joker type statue-man sitting on the bench with his arm up.
We entered and told Damien what we want.

He went to the counter to order while Aaron and I sat across each other staring at anything but each other.
Aaron started humming and I recognised the song immediately.

'Stitches' by Shawn Mendes.

I starting singing to the tune immediately as it was one of the songs I really liked.

I thought that I've been hurt before
But no one's ever left me quite this sore
Your words cut deeper than a knife
Now I need someone to breathe me back to life

He stopped and looked at me.
I shut up immediately and looked away. I don't really know if I'm a good singer. I've only ever sand in the shower or sometimes when I am alone in the kitchen, cooking.

When it comes to singing I always felt shy and insecure.

I looked at him and expected him to make a face and throw some snarky comment on how horrible my voice is but he didn't.

He smiled.
“You have a incredible voice”

Incredible voice

“Really?” I asked.

He forrowed his eyebrows in confusion,“ Hasn't anyone told you?”
I shook my head.

That's when Damien came back and things became awkward all over again.

“So how has gang life been Aaron?” Damien asked unsure of his words.
Well he had to bring out this topic now did he.

Aaron smirked.
“ Great! Better since you left. I never knew you were so scared Damien. I thought you were a tough guy.”

I notice Damien's jaw tightens and his hand goes through his hair while he bites his lips nevervously.
I just stare at him.

Was he in the Mafia before?
Back when we were friends?
What the hell is Aaron talking about!
Damien is not in any Mafia and he wasn't back then.

Was he?
Was he in the Mafia?
Did he lie to me?

“Damien?” I ask nervously
He turns towards me and I can see guilt all over his face.
His face is half panicked, shocked and guilty.

“Jade let me explain”

“So it's true! You were in the Mafia? You still are.”

I get up from my seat and walk to the bathroom. I just stare at my reflection and think about how many betrayals I could handle before I break. Damien was my friend since we were in diapers. His Mom before she became a Alcoholic, was best friends with my mom. He knew since childhood I would always shy away from a fight. Didn't really like the idea of hurting someone. Trust comes hard for me. Especially now. Maybe before, I would have forgiven him or something, but now the only three people I trust which are in the Mafia is my brother and dad and Xander. He  first came to me, asking me if it was okay if I would find it okay if he would join them. Then he went to Lilly. If he wanted to, he could be a part of it. Since most of our town is involved with us. This town is where are headquarters are. They deal with people across the world, but they know the ins and outs of this place. The police here, the people. They all know that they run the town.
