Veer's POV
I woke up to my mom asking me to come out of the room quick as I was on the headlines and was being telecasted on every channel
I came out to see the cab driver being interviewed and he showering praises on me. Following them were the kid and his parents
But I didn't do any of this. It was Samara. But they didn't even mention about her.
I rushed to the gym first asking the reception guy if he knew her details.
"No sir. She never told She always came to meet you so I thought you were related." he said.
I sighed in frustration.
I somehow got the cab drivers number from my call history and dialled him up.
"Sir how was my acting?" He questioned me instead.
I was taken aback.
"You were acting?" I asked
"That lady wanted to be anonymous Sir. That's why she asked me not to tell anything about anyone" he said.
"What else did Samara say?" I asked
"That I shouldn't tell about her to anyone. As if I knew." he said
Damn you Samara!
I remember she taking an auto home
I rushed home and took my bike keys.
"Where are you going Veer" my mom asked
"I'll be back soon.!" I said as I took my bike keys and rode off to the asylum.
There was an Auto stand nearby.
I asked one of the men if anyone had dropped anyone home at one o clock when one among the Auto drivers gave me her address.
But the address was not exactly correct. She got down at a cross road and so I didn't know which lane she walked into.
Highly disappointed with myself I walked into a club. Inside the club it was like dancing on the Northern Lights; beneath the dry-ice smoke swirled an array of blues, acid greens, hot pinks and gold. The music played over the dance floor as if had fused with the bodies.
It's not that I liked this culture but at least I felt diverted from everything. That's what my non cricketing life for two months has done to me.
My phone began ringing.
And then Samara's words struck my mind.
Just make sure your mobile is turned on. You might be recruited back into the team anytime soon
Just make sure your mobile is turned on. You might be recruited back into the team anytime soon
I came out of the club and received the call.
"Hello?"
"How're you doing Veer?"
"I'm doing good Sir. But somehow I miss the team. I wish there's some way back to get into it." I said sighing
"Welcome back to the team Veer. You've been selected for the next tour against South Africa. BCCI has lifted the ban from you. All thanks to some journalist. Just meet up soon" Ravi Shastri said
"Thank you sir. See you soon'' I said and hung up.
One favour she did and here my life changed overnight.
I rush back to the club just to get dancing and lift up my soul.
As I began grooving to the music I have a very bad urge for a drink.
"One orange juice please" I said to the waiter.
I rest my hand on the rough paintwork that coats the door and push. Rough wooden splinters cut into my palm; shards of black paint crumble to the floor. The hinges squeal as though they are a warning, but their plea is silenced by a wall of noise. Laughter overpowers the jukebox. Conversations swirl in a dirty cloud of smoke, the stagnant stench of cigarettes hides within the collaboration of mephitic odours. A sharp smell of drink wafts towards me, like black plumes bellowing from the windows of a burning house. There’s even a hint of sick tainting the fragrance of the room.
"I can't celebrate the Victory alone especially when someone is an equal part of it and deserves it." I murmured to myself.
"I just wish you appear before me right now" I wished
"Your orange juice sir" he said as he placed two glasses of orange juice in front of me.
Wait I asked one!
"Thinking of me?" A familiar voice asked
"No" I said as she raised an eyebrow.
"I mean yes I was thinking of you" I confessed.
She took the other glass of juice
"You know what Samara they accepted me back into the team. What are you a magician?" I asked
"Maybe. Because I vanish real quick" she said winking
"Can I have a dance with you Samara? At least I get a dance with a magician before she vanishes again" I said cheekily.
She agreed as I walk with her to the dance floor.
No-one can see the dance floor, it's wall to wall people dancing to the club music. There's no room for any more but somehow when Samara and I hit it the space magically comes. The music is all nineteen nineties but we're dancing like it's jive, twisting, turning, holding hands as we change sides. We're all grins, we look like idiots and we don't care. Inside we're just happy, happy and more alive than we can ever be in the world I feel the part of me that's really me come out to play, to feel the vibe of the music and let my body go free. One moment, one brilliant feeling of togetherness suspended in time. In ten years I'll still remember tonight, I love the quiet life but I relish the crazy fun times. Music, friends, good times, dance. Then I can focus in class, learn the facts, be the good guy. Can I help it of my soul loves a kickin' beat?
"So???" I said dragging the word.
"You'll be busy from tomorrow. You won't remember me. I'll vanish from your life forever" she said
"No Samara I can't lose you. Not again" I said hugging her
The hug was a simple enough gesture - affection, perhaps the fragile beginnings of love. The arms that held him were soft, yet strong. The feel of her body so close to his soothed him more than he had expected. But within seconds he pulled away, his mind swam not with the heady excitement of a new relationship.
"You changed my life Samara. I can't let you go just like that" I said
She handed me over a note.
"That's my number. Call me up after 10 in the night only" she said
"After 10? What you're a witch or a ghost now?" I asked
She looked at me angrily
"A cute one you are. See you soon Samara" I said as she hired an auto.
As soon as the auto went out of sight my phone received a message
91 ***** *****
Can we meet again over a cup of coffee?
I checked the ID of the number in Truecaller.
The ID lit up my face, mood and everything.
Samara
Sure I'll be there

Don't be late ;)
I sent the message and forgot the fact about how she got my phone number even before I gave it to her.
