chapter 22- Watch

kenzie's p.o.v

"Wait so you've sorted everything out?" Annie asked me, as she pulled out a white top from a hanger.
"Mmhm." I mumbled as I walked ahead of her towards the changing room.

It was Sunday, a day after Johnny and I made up. Annie and I decided to meet and go shopping at urban outfitters.

We entered different changing rooms and I quickly slipped on a black singlet top that I picked out.

We took half an hour trying out clothes and when we were finally done we went to the cash counter to pay for our stuff.

"I'm so sure Hayden was flirting with me the other day kenz. But it just annoys me that he won't ask me out already! I mean if he liked me he would have by now
wouldn't he?" She asked me as the cashier checked our stuff.

"I mean he should've asked you by now but guys are oblivious annie. They really are."

She groaned.
"I don't know what to think anymore. I heard Emily skinner telling Nadia they kissed at Joey Birlem's party and she's really sure he's going to ask her out."

I really wish Hayden would stop messing around and hurting Annie's feelings.

"I'm so done with boys." Annie sighed.

"um..that would be a 100 dollars." The cashier coughed.

I noticed he was looking at annie and to be fair, he was quite good looking. He looked our age and had cute scruffy brown hair and puppy eyes.

"Um..right." Annie said as she scrambled through her purse. Her cheeks were speckled with pink and I could tell she liked the attention.

"Here you go," I said putting 60$ on the counter,"I'll meet you outside." I said offering Annie a smile.

She shot me a grateful look, nodding her head.

I grabbed the bag full of my clothes and went outside.
It was kinda chilly and I was really looking forward to getting a nice hot drink at Starbucks.
hmmm a hot caramel macchiato would be perfect for this weather.

I waited, scrolling through my phone when suddenly I felt a pair of cold hands on my cheek.

"annie!" I squeaked, jumping and turning around.

I was met with a familiar cheeky grin and a pair of green eyes, alight with mischief.

"Hey kenz." It was Johnny.
His hair was disheveled and his cheeks were red because of the cold.

"John what are you doing here?"
I asked, pleasantly surprised.

"Nadia wanted to come shopping." He said with a shrug.
"You hate shopping." I snorted and he gave me a small smile, "Just trying to keep her happy"

The thought of Johnny doing something to make Nadia happy made me my insides melt.
Not the fact that he was doing it for her, but the fact that he was such a good boyfriend.

"That's really cute John." I said truthfully and I don't know whether it was the fact that it was really cold but he looked like he was blushing.

He laughed it off,"anyways how come you're here?"
"Oh I came shopping with Annie. She's inside with the cashier, and I was trying to play Cupid." I said with a smile.
He frowned,"I don't think Hayden will like that very much."

"If he likes her, why doesn't he ask her out already?"

"He's scared she doesn't feel the same. He doesn't want to ruin their friendship." He said staring at me with an expression I didn't quite understand on his face.

"Well he better do it before she finds someone else." I coughed awkwardly. He paused looking at me for a few seconds.
"You're right. It doesn't work out for some people and they eventually find someone else." His tone was no longer light and he was looking at me all funny.

He cleared his throat, shaking his head slightly,"um anyways, I should probably go find Nadia. I'll see you at school?"
I nodded giving him a small wave and he gave me a smile before walking away.

Annie came back with the biggest smile on her face.
"He was so cute Kenz! His name is Asher and he gave me his number and said we should hang out sometime."
"Aww are you going to call him any time soon?" I said smiling.

"Definitely!" She said, as we walked arm in arm towards Starbucks.

I didn't have the heart to mention Hayden. She looked so happy.

"Bye see you tomorrow!" I blew Annie a kiss as she dropped me off back home.
It was seven now and I was pretty tired after having such a long day.

She waved to me and then sped off. I opened the front door, holding my urban bag in my other hand. I was at once greeted by my furry little dog Maliboo. She jumped around excitedly, licking my shoes.

I laughed stooping down to pet her. I heard the noise of the tv coming from the living room and I walked in to see my mum, Maddie and her friend Charlize spread out on the sofa watching The Bachelorette.

"Kenzieee!" Charlize said getting up to hug me.
I love her. she's the best.

"Char char!" I said hugging her back and we giggled falling on top of Maddie.
"Ugh you guys move!" Maddie grumbled, pushing us off.

"How was your day with annie honey?" My mom said, patting the spot next to her and making me sit down.
"Great." I said,"but I'm really tired now mom. I'm gonna go sleep." I said getting up.

"Good night." I said, grabbing my bag and walking out.
"Night." Mom, Charlize and Maddie said in unison.

I went up to my room putting my things away in my closet.
Before I slept I wanted to film another cover. After my day and everything Johnny said, I knew one song that would let me let out all my emotions by singing.
I propped my camera against the headboard of my bed, grabbing my ukulele.

"Hi everyone welcome back to my channel. Today I'll be singing Watch by Billie Eilish." I cleared my throat and slowly sang the lyrics, playing my ukulele softly,

"Thanks for watching guys and make sure to like and subscribe to my channel." I said with a smile and then switched of my camera.

I edited the video a bit on my laptop and then posted it on my channel. I had a tiny voice at the back of my head thinking that if Johnny does see this, which he definitely will cause he has my post notifications on, would  he have an inkling that it's about him?

It's so obvious it is, but he probably has no idea how crazy I am about him.
And it's for the better.
It would shock him. I could see his expression already, green eyes big and wide.
He'd say something along the lines of "no kenzie that's wrong. We're best friends that's all."
My heart twisted at the thought.

I brushed my teeth and changed into some comfy pajamas flopping into bed with my phone.
I didn't have time to check any texts today and I got some from Brynn and Jake.

I opened Jake's,

Jake❤️- I missed you today
Jake❤️- meet me near your locker in school tomorrow x

My heart melted at his texts.

Kenzie- I missed you too💗
Kenzie- see u tom!!

I feel so guilty for thinking about Johnny so much when there was this amazing guy who treated me so well. I promised myself that from tomorrow onwards, Jacob would be the only boy on my mind.
I switched my phone and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
