chapter 45- Diners and cute waiters

We walked into the diner to see everyone else already there.
Ruby, annie, Carson and Hayden were all sitting on one bench where there was space for a few more and opposite them was Johnny, with Nadia clinging on to him. Devenity was there too  looking as if she had been forced  to come probably by Nadia.

Lauren and Brynn  slipped in  to Johnny's booth while Jake and I squeezed into the one opposite.

Everyone was deciding what to order, and I settled on a chocolate milkshake and fries.

Everyone broke into conversation and Nadia suddenly spoke up, taking me by surprise as she cast a sly glance at  me," I was thinking of getting me and Johnny promise rings, you know after all everything we've been through and still stayed strong."

I could feel Brynn shaking with anger from next to me.

"What do you think Kenzie?" She fluttered her eyelashes innocently.

I could tell that Johnny was deliberately looking away from me, trying to strike up a conversation with Hayden.

"Say the word and I'll punch her." Brynn growled into my ear.

I ignored her, answering Nadia's question.
"I..uh..I think that's a great idea." I coughed, making Nadia's smile widen at my discomfort.

"um anyways," Lauren said lightly, changing the topic,"What are we all having?"
She ushered towards the waiter.

"Ignore her." Jake mumbled in my ear and I shut my eyes for a moment, leaning against him.

even though my eyes were shut I swear I could feel Johnny's eyes on me.

"What can I get for you beautiful?" My eyes fluttered open to see the waiter was referring to me.

He seemed about my age, with dark hair. He was very tall and kind of lanky, not my type at all and I could see a glint of cockiness in his eyes.

I felt Johnny's eyes flicker towards me and I flushed at the unwanted attention I was getting from the waiter.

"I'll have a chocolate milkshake with fries please." I mumbled.
"Right. Anything else I can get for you?" He said, checking me out and grinning suggestively.

I shook my head.
"I'm Gus by the way." He added, giving me a wink.

Johnny cleared his throat,"It would be nice if you could do your job and get us our food now." His voice was deliberately sarcastic and Gus looked irritated.

"I'll be back." He muttered, before stalking off.

"Okay he was cute!" Devenity squealed.
Johnny's head snapped towards me, eyes narrowed.
Whether he ignored my presence or not, I knew Gus's interest in me bothered him.

In a few minutes our food arrived and to Gus's surprise, he received a very excited Devenity's number on a napkin.
He smirked, his interest in me suddenly deflating like a balloon, as he walked off with swagger in his step.

We all ate, discussing the game. my eyes were on Johnny the entire time as he spoke about his passion. It was really cute the way his face just lit up!

He absentmindedly turned to my direction, and seeing my encouraging smile, his eyes softened but then he immediately looked away. My heart fluttered.

It wasn't much but it was still progress!

After eating our food we went outside to the parking lot.

"Guys! I'm craving Magic fountain ice cream right now. Let's go get some pleaseee." Annie whined, causing Hayden to chuckle.

"I'm in." He stated and everyone else agreed.

"Kenzie, if you don't make your move at Magic fountain so I can see that smile wiped off Nadia's face, I will shove ice cream up your nose!" Brynn threatened me.

I rolled my eyes, slipping my hand in hers as we moved towards Jake's jeep.
"Okay I will." I said determinedly.

I have to, if I want our friendship to last and maybe have it lead to something more later. At the moment I just needed him to forgive me.
