chapter 23- Sabotaged Date

The next morning I got ready for school. It was cold out so I put on a tight black v-neck with a charcoal gray shrug and some boyfriend jeans. I slipped my vans on and grabbed my phone and bag down to get some breakfast.

I went into the kitchen, grabbing an orange and sitting down on the table, eating and scrolling through the comments on my latest YouTube video as I waited for Maddie.

Over night I got 70k likes and many new subscribers.
I was so happy and the comments brought a smile to my face.

Suddenly I heard the sound of a car horn.I frowned, walking towards the front door. I opened it and walked outside. My mouth dropped when I saw Johnny's black Audi parked out in front of my yard.

He rolled his window down, sticking his head out,"get in."

"What are you doing here?" I yell.
"Picking you up for school." He said as if it were obvious.

"You don't have to take me. Nadia's probably waiting for you. Maddie usually drops me anyways I-" I rambled.
He rolled his eyes cutting me short,"Just get in Ziegler."

I hesitated before turning to grab my phone and bag and made my way towards his car.

He watched me as I opened the passenger door, getting into the car with a huff.

"Why are you picking me up?" I say turning to him.
"Good morning to you too." He said chirpily making me roll my eyes.
"You didn't answer my question."

"Well if it's so important, I missed carpooling to school with you."

I narrowed my eyes,"What about Nadia?"

He sighed.
"This has nothing to do with Nadia but since you really wanna know she's gone to Paris for fashion week with her aunt and uncle." He said, starting up the car.

"Oh." I said.
No wonder he's picking me up today. once again I'm being used as backup for when his girlfriend isn't around.

"Yeah..Anyways I thought we could hang out. I've missed you." He shot me a sideways grin.

Every time he said something like that my stance melted. I should've been distant. I should've been cold.

But instead I smiled and said,
"Chipotle for dinner?"
He smiled,"sounds good."

"I noticed you didn't bother taking Lauren with us to school." I pointed out.
His eyes became big
"I forgot! She'll just have to hitch a ride with Darian or something."

I laughed as he pulled the car into the school parking lot.

He parked the car and then we both got out. We mostly just talked and joked around as we made our way into school. It's like all the tension between us had passed. It felt like the old Johnny was back.

And I was glad.

As we walked towards my locker I saw Jake standing there.
My eyes widened and I turned towards Johnny.
"Um I'll see you later." I mumbled hurriedly.
"Don't we have Math together?" He said frowning.

My eyes switched back to Jacob who was waiting for me and Johnny's eyes followed my gaze.

"Oh." His voice was cold.

"I'll see you at math then? Save me a seat?" I said giving him a sheepish smile.
"Okay." He said, his eyes still on Jacob.

I turned, walking towards Jacob. When he saw me his eyes lit up and he moved forward to give me a hug. I could feel Johnny's eyes burning on my back as I hugged him back.
Jacob handed me a rose and I was pleasantly surprised.
"Aw thank you." I blushed, twirling it around my fingers.

"My pleasure." He winked at me.

"You're sweet." I smiled.

"Do you want to go on another one of our adventurous dates after school today?" He asked me hopefully and I grinned.

"I'd love that." I said truthfully and he smiled.
"Okay your turn to choose what to do though." He said leaning against my locker.

"Hmm how about something cool. We can go hiking and watch the sunset?"
His face broke into a grin,"that'll be great babe. I'll get pizza."

I nodded enthusiastically.
He leaned over, connecting his lips with mine for a brief minute before pulling away.

"Bye." I said, as I watched him walk away.
I turned around with a stupid smile on my face to see Johnny standing right where I left him with his eyebrows furrowed.

"A rose? seriously?" He snorted, pointing towards the rose in my hands.
"Shut up John. He's sweet." I huffed.

"Cheesy as fuck, but okay ." He rolled his eyes making me frown.
"What did he want?" He asked
trying to sound casual.
"Nothing we just made some plans for the evening." I said smiling brightly at the thought of a fun evening with Jake.

"I thought you and I had plans for the evening?" He frowns
"Oh sorry John. Can we do that some other time?" I said, walking towards math class.

He trailed behind me,"well I was really in the mood for some Mexican tonight."
"Order in?" I said with a shrug.

I was well aware that this was getting to him. It was actually pretty fun because this is exactly what he does to me with Nadia.

"After everything that happened I thought you'd probably want to hang out like we used to." He said, stopping in his tracks and folding his arms stubbornly.

It was weirdly satisfying to see him behave like this but also so annoying cause it was such a double standard. He used to do this to me with Nadia all the time and I never said anything.

"I mean I'm sure Jacob won't mind me coming along with you guys wherever you're planning on going. You're my best friend and he and I used to be very close too ." He put an emphasis on the 'used to'.

I sighed in defeat,"Fine! If it really means that much to you I'll ask him if you can tag along with us to chipotle."

"Who's going where?" Carson interrupted us from the back.
I huffed,"Carson don't you have to somewhere to be right now?"

"Nah free period. Anyways did I hear you guys are going to Chipotle?"
"Wait why don't you come with us?" John asked, feigning enthusiasm. I tried to elbow him sharply but he moved away just in time. He did this deliberately.

"Great! Count me in, I'll invite the rest of the gang too and tell them to meet us there at seven." He said, giving Johnny a thump on the back and then walking off.

"Thanks for sabotaging my date."
I grumbled.
He gave me a shrug as he turned and continue to walk but I didn't miss the triumphant grin on his face.

Now I have to walk into class 10 minutes late and also explain to my boyfriend that instead of going on a romantic date we were joining our friends in a fast food restaurant for dinner.
