_____________________Johnny and kenzie's friendship (or whatever you would call their situation) was well and truly over.
kenzie was a mess.
She missed him like crazy and had even tried to fix things between them but he was done with her.She couldn't wrap her head around it.
How can you go from being someone's number one priority to not even having anything to do with them?-
"Kenzie! They're here! You've got three envelopes from the colleges you applied to." Maddie squealed, bursting into her sister's room, followed by their mother who was carrying a tray of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
If it was bad news the cookies could be eaten for comfort.
If it was good news they could be eaten in celebration. The pretty brunette put her ukulele down, moving towards her sister Maddie.
"Really?" Her caramel eyes shone as she grabbed the letters and ripped open the envelopes.
There was silence as Mackenzie's mother wrapped her arms around herself tightly, blowing out puffs of air from her mouth nervously.
This is the moment they had all been waiting for.
The question of Mackenzie's future.Mackenzie's eyes scanned the first letter. It was from University of Pennsylvania and she was surprised and pleased to see that she had got accepted. She put it down picking up the other.
It was good to have some options for her to choose from, she thought to herself. The second was from NYU.
The same college Maddie was going to be graduating from soon.
She had got accepted in it too and her hands shook with excitement. Mackenzie was almost a hundred percent sure that, that's where she would eventually end up.
It was close to home as well.
Nothing could be better for me than this, she thought, inwardly smiling. She grasped the last letter tightly, seeing the shiny caption written on the envelope. There was no way she would get into this particular university.
No way. the only reason she had even applied was because Maddie forced her into it. It wouldn't matter cause she wouldn't get in.
Waitlisted perhaps. She opened out the letter and as soon as her lips shaped out the words written on the paper, her heart dropped, eyes widening in shock.
"Well?" Mellisa questioned, grabbing the NYU and U Penn letters and beaming with pride as she read them.
"I.. I got into Yale." She managed to croak out, her eyes fixed on the letter from Yale University.
Maddie and Mellisa immediately erupted into squeals, tears, dancing and hugging Mackenzie while she stayed perfectly limp
Mellisa shook her, to try and get out of her trance.
"Sweetheart all your hard work paid off! You're getting into Yale, I'm just so proud. I'm just going to call up all the relatives and then we're going to Cafe Lantern to celebrate. Oh and enjoy these cookies, I baked them specially for you." She handed the tray to her daughter and then walked off, humming away happily.
"Yale. Wow kenzie, you're one star of a girl. Yale is incredible." Maddie said, breaking off a piece of the cookie and popping it into her mouth.
