Blind Nagisa

Karma pov
At first it wasn't much of a big deal.
I noticed that Nagisa was having a difficult time reading, whether be reading the board or even his book.
I just assumed he needed glasses and everything would be fine after that.

But it wasn't....it only got worse from there.

He would bump into things like desks, chairs, and people.
Even during PE I noticed how he started  lacking. His movements slowed down and he would completely miss the target and fall over.

I couldn't take it any more and took him to the eye doctor.

That was when we got the news

"You're going blind"

The moment I heard those words my heart stopped.
'Nagisa...is going blind'
I looked over at him and saw how calm he looked
'How can he be so calm?!'

"Until when?" He asked with no hint of worry in his voice
"It seems like you're eyesight is going away very quickly, so 2 weeks at most"
He sighed and bowed
"Thank you"
He then looked down at me since I was still sitting down
"Lets go Karma" he smiled lightly

The walk back was silent.
We both didnt say a word to each other.

When we reached his house he smiled
"Thanks for walking me"
Before he could walk away I grabbed his wrist
"Karma?"
"Are....are you going to tell them?" I asked, referring to our classmates
"...no, I think it'll be best if they didn't know"
"So you're just going to keep them in the dark!"
"Of course not, I'll tell them when I'm ready"
"But you'll be blind by then!"
Out of nowhere he cupped my face with both his hands
"I'll tell Korosensei If that'll make you feel better"
"..."
I only looked down and felt my eyes water
'Why is he calm? Does he not care!?'

"I'll see you tommorow, bye" he smiled before closing the door

The next day I saw Nagisa walk out of the teachers lounge.
I walked up to him
"Did you tell him?" I asked
".....yeah, he suggested I tell them now so it won't come as a shock that one day my vision is gone"
I held his hand
"I'll be there"
Nagisa looked up and smiled
"Thanks Karma"

Once class started I stood by Nagisa infront of the classroom as he told the them that he was going blind

"What do you mean you're going blind!" Teresaka yelled
"You can't be going blind!" Maehara said
"You can't be looking your vision! What about our assassination plans!" Kayano screamed
"Everyone calm down! You're not making the situation any better!" Isogai yelled gaining the classes attention
"Thanks Isogai" Nagisa thanked him
"..."
Everyone was quiet until Kanzaki spoke up
"We're sorry, we just don't want to accept the fact that you're losing your vision"
"Yeah, I'm sorry I freaked out, I just...we don't want you to miss out on anything" Kayano said with tears in her eyes
"I'll be fine Kayano"
Nagisa walked up to her and hugged her
"I know it must be shocking getting this news, but let's just all be there for Nagisa and make sure he enjoys everything he has right now" Korosensei said walking into the classroom
"...."
"Korosenei is right. Let's all just enjoy the time we have together" Okuda spoke up
"Thanks Okuda"
"You can always trust us" She added

I had walked out the class with Nagisa, walking on the snowy covered ground
"How do you feel?"
"Fine. The air is pretty cold though" he said, looking out at the view infront of him
'Of course he doesn't want to make eye contact with me, he'd rather look at the sight he'll never see again'

"Shall we go back inside Karma"
"....I guess"

The days were going by like a breeze.
Before we knew it 2 weeks had passed by.
Everyone in 3-E made sure Nagisa experienced things he's never done before.
Of course that meant that we barely had time together.
He was always with them

Once it got dark everyone started heading home.
Okuda was passing me before stopping
"Why don't you take him on a walk, it'll do the both of you some good"
"...."
"You two need some time together" she said before walking away

I took Okuda's words to heart and went up to Nagisa
"Hey Nagisa, want to take a walk"
He smiled
"Sure"

As we were strolling I couldn't help but think back to what the doctor told Nagisa.
He had 2 weeks at most before losing his vision.
It has already been 2 weeks and 3 days. Which meant that any day he'll walk up in total darkness.
Nagisa knows that he could loose his vision any day now and he still has a smile on his face.
I'm I the only one bothered by this!?

I froze and grabbed Nagisa's hand
"Karma?"
"....How's your vision?" I asked
"...blurry, but I can still see"
"...."
"Is something wrong?"
"Yeah. Why are you so calm!?"
"What do you mean?"
"You could loose your eyesight any day now and you're not even the smallest amount bothered by it! If I were you I would be afraid! I'd be upset that I wouldn't be able to enjoy the things I once did! I wouldn't be able to see my loved ones! Why aren't you!? Aren't you scarred that one day you won't be able to see me!"
Nagisa only looked down
".....I knew you'd react like this....that's why I acted like I wasn't bothered by it"
"Acted?"
"I had to stay strong for the both of us" he smiled with puffy eyes
"Nagisa..."
"But in reality...I'm scarred....I'm terrified Karma! I'm scarred of walking up one day and not being able to see a thing! I scarred that I won't be able to see! I won't be able to enjoy the things I once did! I won't be able to turn on the switch and see the world like I once did! Worst of all I won't be able to see you!" He yelled with tears in his eyes
"!!" My eyes widened after hearing him
'So he was scarred, he just pushed it aside and acted like it wasn't a big deal'
I pulled him closer and wrapped my arms around him
"I'll always be there for you Nagisa"
"You won't leave me? Even when I can't see you?" He asked in a shaky voice
"When you can't find me....I'll be the one to find you"
"Thank you"

1 year later
A year had passed and Nagisa had completely lost his vision.
He lived in a dark world....but of course I was there for him.
It was of course difficult for him at first....waking up and not seeing anything.

I still remember when he woke up and started screaming.
He was terrified...he couldn't see anymore.
However, I was there for him.
I hugged him and calmed him down...I told him all the positives of losing his vision and that I would always be there.

It was upsetting knowing he had to learn everything all over again and he couldn't enjoy the beautiful views...but he managed and always had a smile on his face.

We were both huddled on the couch watching a movie when I spoke up
"Nagisa...how about we get a dog"
"A dog? Why?"
"Not for me...for you"
"You mean a service dog?"
"Yeah, that way you could go out more often"
"I wouldn't mind, but..."
"But what?"
"I'm not going to fit in....I'm a handicap now"
I frowned and cupped his face
"Don't ever say that about yourself. Even if the whole world looks down on you...you'll have me"
He chuckled
"What'd I do to deserve you?"
"I should be the one saying that"
I smiled as both our foreheads touched
