Hospitalized Nagisa

Karma pov
I was walking the empty white hallway, my footsteps echoing on the walls.
I continued until I reached the door that had the name Shiota Nagisa on it
"..."
I took a deep breath and entered
Once I was in the same person greeted me, with the same beautiful smile.
"Karma"
I smiled back
"How are you feeling today?" I asked like every other day
"Better" he said
I sat down beside him and held his hand, looking at the two matching rings on our fingers, remembering the day I first met him...7 years ago

Flashback
"You brat! Don't even think about disrespecting me!"
A group of guys were hitting on a little blue haired boy
"Hey! Leave him alone!" I yelled
"Shit It's Akabane! Run!"
The group all ran away leaving the beaten up kid on the floor
"Hey, you ok?" I asked
He started getting up
"Thanks"
"Should I take you to the hospital?" I asked after seeing all the bruises
"No need"
He was about to walk away until I grabbed his hand
"Sorry I can't ignore a wounded stranger. Besides I don't want to feel responsible for your injuries"

That was the start of our friendship that later evolved into something more.

When we turned 18 we went to the restaurant we always wanted to go to but never had the chance to go.
We then bought the most expensive rings we could afford at the time.
That night we walked through the park, hand in hand and kissed under the stars.

For once I truly felt happy.
This is what happiness feels like.

Sadly it didn't last.

2 years later Nagisa fell ill with Chronic Leukemia.
Because of my carelessness it was discovered too late.

"Doctor! My son just turned 20!"
I heard Nagisa's mom yell at the doctor
"Doctor! He's only 20! His life has only just started!"
Throughout that whole week I wasn't by his side.
I hid like a coward.
I didn't know how to face him.

Until I gathered up my courage and visited him
"Hello Mrs. Shiota. I am Akabane Karma, a friend of Nagisa"
"Hello"
"I'm sorry, I never thought we would meet under these circumstances. Here is a small gift"
"Thank you for visiting him"
"Karma!" Nagisa yelled and ran towards me, hugging me
"I thought you abandoned me!"
"What's going on?" His mom asked
"Mom...Karma is my boyfriend"
That was the day we announced to his mom that we were going out.
Although she didn't support the idea, she wasn't against it.

Flashback end

"Karma can we go and take a stroll outside?" He asked
I smiled
"Sure, but dress warmly"
"Ok!"
Before we headed out I helped Nagisa get dressed in his light blue jeans, black turtle neck, brown coat, and brown boots
"Let's go!" He said
"Hold on" I said
He froze
"You're forgetting something"
He walked back to me and I wrapped his scarf around his neck and placed the hat on his head which was easy now that he cut his hair
"Can we go now!?"
"Hold on"
He sighed and walked back to me
I smiled and kissed his lips before giving him his surgical mask
"We can go now"
"Yay!" He cheered

I was walking beside Nagisa while he was jumping on some bricks
"Are you cold Nagisa? If you are we can go inside"
"I'm fine. Besides it's been so long since I've been outside with you"
Just then he lost his balance and he fell over
"Nagisa!"
I yelled and caught him by his waist
His head lay on my shoulder and I felt him grip my coat
"..."
I couldn't tell what expression he was making
"This ring...when you find someone better, replace it with a prettier one. I won't mind."
"What are you saying Nagisa? It's apart of me now, I can't just replace it"
"...then I'll replace it in my next life...." he said quietly and his grip on my coat loosening
"Nagisa?"

1 year later
Nagisa's ring was in the palm of my hand.
He had died 1 year ago
On that cold night
The night he told me to replace his ring.
He died in my arms.
"..."
.

.

.
"I'm sorry Nagisa....I can't replace this ring"
"..."
"Wait for me...ok"
I looked up at the blue sky as a tear rolled down my cheek.
The one happy thing in my life is gone, but I'll keep on living because I'm sure that's what he would have wanted.
"See you later Nagisa" I said before walking away, with his ring still in my palm
