It was routine now, I would be at the cafe, ordering my usual cup of hot chocolate and sitting in my usual window seat.
I'd admire the outside for a bit, studying the world and the people, coming up with a story for each of them.
A family with a single mother and two kids, the children hand in hand with their mother and chatting happily to her. She smiled back at them, but it was a melancholy smile. As if there was some burden that she didn't want to share with the innocent kids.
Perhaps they were wondering where their father was, longing for a sort of paternal figure in their lives. But he had left a long time ago, abandoning them and leaving the woman to fend for herself and her two children. Perhaps there was hope for them though, the three of them. The kids were loved by their mother and the mother loved by her kids.
The silver lining around that cloud seemed to be that the three of them shared a love that couldn't be so easily broken.
A couple that was desperately trying to make their relationship work, but they just weren't able to because they didn't trust each other the way they once did. They looked away even though their hands were linked. The subtle glances they'd give other people, showing interest in strangers rather than in each other. Those little clues that signaled something had gone wrong, something had happened.
However, their hands were stilled interlinked and they were trying. Trying could lead to a variety of results, but perhaps they could patch up whatever mistakes had been made and reconcile.
A girl with her head down, staring at a phone, closing herself away from the rest of the world, trying to chase away the demons. Her eyes were reddened and blotchy and with a defeated gaze at the sky, she turned the next corner and wandered off. Maybe she could find someone to save her from her pain, someone she could trust and open up to and for her sake, even though I had never met her, I hope she does find someone.
I'd study it all, the people, the scenery, the moods, and ponder life, ponder everything.
I'd let my thoughts drift around, wandering amongst the strange abyss that was my mind. Because there was so much that could be noticed and seen, but only to those who pay attention; to those who pay attention and allow themselves the chance to think.
Sometimes if I was bored I'd chat with Aveena, who had become a good friend since she first gave me that hot chocolate with the shot of espresso. Some days she came to me, a paper in her hand, asking me if I could review it for her brother.
But while those were more of a hit or miss-some days it'd happen and some days it wouldn't-your messages were always something I could look forward to reading.
Whether it be a message that took me back in time and filled me with nostalgic longing or a message that made me smile with the memory, your message would be there.
Every Saturday, without fail, for the past 15 weeks.
Hey,
Remember when during the last few days of summer I spent the night at your place because well...my family was going through a tough time? Although the cause of it was bad, those were a few nice days I wouldn't mind reliving.
The beach was my favorite, what about you?
~Me
P.S. ...is it bad that I regret it ending?
