“Emma!” Ally squealed loudly into my ears as soon as I walked through the doors of my high school. She gave me a bear hug.
“Hi, Ally” I said tiredly. I couldn’t sleep for days now thinking about that kiss incident with Ross!
“Are you ready for Valentine’s day this week!” Ally chirped as she walked the hallway with me.
Oh, that’s right. Friday was Valentine’s day and I hated that. I mean what’s the point of celebrating a holiday, (in a couple kinda way) if next year your probably not gonna be with that person?
“You know Valentine’s day is the worst holiday invented!” I shot back. “All we get is stupid notes with horrible boy thoughts as messages on them” I said.
“But sometimes we even get chocolate! I want flowers!” Ally was day dreaming already.
“I doubt it” I teased going to first period.

I could hear girls all chirping loudly talking about the Valentine’s day dance that was going to happen later on and what boy they wanted to be asked by.
It was a tradition in our high school for a boy to ask the girls with flowers of chocolate to the dance. And this was the day where girls were suppose to dress like celebrities with a bunch of makeup.
I on the other hand hated the day with all my guts and dressed with jeans and a blouse. Why get myself worked up with high expectations? I really didn’t want to go to the dance. For all I cared, I was happy to stay home and read a Nicholas Sparks’ book.
In came a cart in wheels into the classroom with flowers. If the girl was given a white rose it only meant that a boy was asking them to the dance. But the girl won’t know till he actually confronted her with the question.
I catched Ally jumping in her seat hopefully, wanting a flower. I just rolled my eyes at how stupid this tradition was.
Names were being called from a list by the teacher.
“Candice”
“Sophia”
“Olivia”
“Brooke”
“Alice” WAIT, WHAT?
“Harmony”
“Gabriella”
“Taylor”
“Emma”
“Melissa”
“Violet”
“Isabelle”
“And Yasmin”
Whoa, did my name actually just got called? Even Ally?! Whoa, this was a nightmare.

“Emma!” Ally sung my name through the halls as we went to take break time.
I stood quiet still trying to find out who could have actually bought me that rose to ask me to the dance.
I mean Jayden and I were under the ‘Never Want To See You Again, So Much For Breathing The Same Air’ category in my head. Nathan and I were under the ‘It Was Only A One Time Date Thing That Didn’t Mean Anything’ category. And then there was Ross.
I gasped. ROSS?! I mean after our kiss! I mean I didn’t want to lead Ross on or anything. And I definitely didn’t want him to see me as the kind of girl who you could take advantage of easily. Was it really Ross? I mean, why me? How did I end on top of his ‘To Ask To The Valentine’s Dance List’?
“What’s wrong Emma? Are you okay? Are you experiencing cramps?” Ally voice was washing into my brain.
I frowned at her. “I am not any time soon close to my period this month, missy” I hissed at her.
“Well, then why aren’t you happy you got a rose?!” Ally was arguing.
“Because I don’t know who bought it for me. Who’s asking me to the dance?” I said spaced out.
“That’s the fun of it all! I don’t know my secret admirer either!” Ally supported her argument.
“I’m surprised you actually got picked” I said under my breath.
“What’s that suppose to mean? I’m not girl worthy to be asked to a Valentine’s day dance?” Ally frowned crossing her arms.
“That’s not what I meant, Ally. I mean this year wasn’t the usual. You know, notes here and there from guys we barely know and if we are lucky enough a box of chocolates” I argued.
“But this year isn’t THE USUAL. We actually got roses this year!” Ally said all happy.
“My point exactly, Ally” I reasoned. “I have a weird feeling about this”
