"Everybody freeze!"
My eyes stay focused on the small television in Duke's office, closely watching surveillance footage of one of the masked phantom robberies.
"See the way this guy always jumps on the counter?" Duke points to the man with the turtleneck.
I nod my head and watch the video unfold. The man with the gun always jumps up on the counter, pointing it to the people in the bank. He yells curse words and threatens them. The other three quickly get the money out of the cash drawers. Their hands are as fast as lightning.
"Look at what they wear." I mutter while keeping my eyes on the screen. "Ski masks with black long sleeve shirts and jeans. They add more to it with their black gloves."
"They can't have their fingerprints anywhere." Duke casually shrugs.
"But why does only one guy have a stupid turtleneck?"
"To prove he's the leader. He never takes the money, his bitches do that for him. He seems to always be in control. Listen to the way he yells, the others stay quiet."
"We should just arrest him." I mumble.
"Yeah, right." Duke rolls his eyes. "They're all part of it."
"This turtleneck guy irks me." I say with disgust.
"Do you really think it's Asher?" He looks back at me.
"I can't hear the audio too well." I let out a sigh while leaning closer to the computer. "His mask makes his voice muffled."
"At least we have a lead." Duke shuts off the footage and leans back in his seat.
"Do we, though?" I raise an eyebrow at him. "We never got a warrant."
"We'll get one. It takes a few weeks to process." He reassures me.
"I can't wait to lock that creep up." I say through my teeth.
"How do you know it's him?" Duke crosses his arms over his chest.
"He fits the profile, and he's the definition of sketchy." I shake my head back and forth.
"Did he ever crash your little party?" He clears his throat.
"Nope, he never showed up." I shrug my shoulders.
"He was never going to." He mumbles under his breath.
"You don't know that." I go back at him.
"Did you get any new information out of Grayson?" He sighs while rising to his feet.
"No, why would I?" I raise an eyebrow.
"I don't know, maybe because you're undercover?" A dumb look crosses his face.
"I'm not going to use him." I sternly tell my partner.
Duke scrunches up his nose as he looks at me. "Are you being serious?"
"Why wouldn't I be?" I run a hand through my hair.
"I am not discussing this again." He goes to walk out of his office.
"There's nothing wrong with him, Duke. I don't get why I can't be undercover and date him at the same time."
"Wow, you're already roped into him." He turns back around to face me.
"I can't describe it, okay? There's something about him that I like." I shamefully admit to him.
"Fine, I'm not your father so I won't ban you from seeing him. All I'm saying is don't mix work with pleasure."
