The waiting area of the emergency room is filled with all different types of noises. People talking, crying, trying to deal with their pain. I bounce my leg up and down as I shift in my chair. I've been sitting here for five hours. Duke went into emergency surgery to remove the bullet from his arm. Luckily, he wasn't shot in the head or chest. The doctor told me it was successful, and now he's in recovery.

My mind flashes back to Bodhi actually pulling down on the trigger. He was going to kill me, before Duke pushed me out of the way. He was so quick and everything happened too fast.

"Here." My eyes move up to see Grayson holding out a bag of chips he got from the vending machine. "You need to eat."

I push the bag away and look down at the floor. "I'm not hungry."

He lets out a small sigh as he bends down to reach my level. "Savannah, please eat something."

"Grayson, this is all my fault." I can feel tears forming in my eyes.

"No, it's mine." He places his hand on my cheek. "I got you into this mess."

"God, he took a bullet for me." I shake my head back and forth. "A few hours earlier we were arguing about you guys, he was so pissed at me."

"He's okay now, the surgery was a success." Grayson whispers while cupping my cheeks.

I look into his eyes while gulping. "Bodhi got away."

"That's also my fault." Grayson closes his eyes while exhaling a breath.

"No, that one's on me. I did it to protect you." A weak grin appears on my face.

"Yeah, but he's still out there." Grayson shakes his head back and forth.

"He can't hurt us anymore." I whisper.

"That doesn't matter. The damage he did has already been done." His voice begins to shake.

I let out a sigh as I hook my arms around his neck. I pull him into the tightest hug possible. His arms wrap around my waist as he squeezes onto my body.

"I love you so much." He says while holding me.

"We did it, Gray." I whisper into his ear. "We can finally live normal lives."

"Savannah, you're going to get fired if they find out you're with me." He slowly says while pulling away from my body.

"I don't care." I shake my head. "You know I would give up everything to be with you."

He stares at me for a few moments, before standing back up. "Look, there's something I need to do."

"What do you mean?" I furrow my eyebrows.

"I'll come to your apartment tonight." His voice is shaking uncontrollably.

"You're leaving?" My eyes widen as I stare at him. "Where are you going?"

"I'll be back, I promise." He says before walking away from me.

"Wait, Grayson." My dry voice cracks as I watch him rush out of the waiting room.

My confused thoughts are interrupted when I hear a female voice call out my name. "Savannah Jacobs?" A nurse looks around the room. She's holding a clipboard in front of her.

"Yes." I rise to my feet and begin to walk toward her.

"Duke Brady is requesting to see you." A small smile forms on her lips.

"Where is he? Is he okay?" I ask with panic.

"Yes, the surgery went well." She motions for me to follow her, and I waste no time moving my feet. "He's very lucky it was an easy removal. Bullet wounds are hard to repair."
