I groaned and pressed the heels of my hands into my eyes. "Damn you, Min Yoongi, why can't you speak like a normal person instead of like a drunk?"
Namjoon walked into my room without even knocking, saying, "I heard groaning."
I typed angrily on my keyboard. "Just doing some captions for YouTube videos."
"Who's giving you trouble?"
"It's always the same person."
Namjoon laughed and sat down on my couch. I watched him self-consciously from my bed, realizing how little I was wearing. Despite my sudden bashfulness, the last few days had warmed up considerably between us, despite the boys' packed schedules. Well, maybe because of their packed schedules. There was less opportunity for them to hang out by themselves, which meant more time for all of us together. Since they'd only had interviews, I hadn't had to think about Namjoon and me in relation with his job and commitment to his fans for a while, but I would have liked to think that it wouldn't be a problem again.
"Why don't you take a break?" he suggested.
"And do what?"
"Me."
I choked. "Kim Namjoon!"
He winked at me. "Don't scream my name like that, or we may get in trouble."
I closed my laptop. "You've ruined my concentration. Just tell me what you actually want to do and let's go."
Namjoon snorted. "You're worse than Yoongi sometimes."
I smiled and tossed my hair. "It's because I'm translating for him, processing his words and channeling his obvious disgust for the stupid things you do."
He laughed, bending over while I did my best Yoongi impersonation (which was hiding myself under the covers and pretending to sleep).
Namjoon flipped the blankets off of me. "We're going for a swim on the roof. You're invited."
"Oh, okay." That didn't sound so bad. It was a warm day.
"We'll meet there at eleven."
I nodded. "See you there."
Half an hour later, I sat on the pool deck with a towel draped loosely around my waist. I was texting Seokjin to ask where they all were when suddenly the group of boys poured through the doors, decked head to toe in swimsuit.
I gasped. I knew they dressed conservatively in the water, but I didn't think they would do that without cameras. I pulled my towel tighter, trying to hide myself. I had a two-piece on, not quite a bikini but not quite a one-piece, and normally I wouldn't care, but once I saw Namjoon's eyes glued on me I knew I should have just gotten out my old swimming suit from my swimming team days in high school.
"Hey Viv!" Jungkook called. He ran up to me. "Were you waiting for us?"
I nodded. "Let's go."
With a steadying breath, I got up and put my towel down next to my phone. When I met Namjoon's gaze again, I tried to fight the blush building on my cheeks.
"Jeez, Viv, why do you look so nervous? It's not like we care—" Taehyung started, cut off by my sharp push. He stumbled into the pool with a yelp.
Jungkook looked at me. "Oh, it's on."
He chased me as I ran past Hoseok, pushing him in the pool in the process. I then shamelessly used Seokjin as a shield, which resulted in him jumping in when he couldn't handle Jungkook and I running circles around him. Yoongi didn't even have to look at us for his warning to be clear, and so I found myself running at Jimin to get away from Jungkook.
Before I could reach him, a pair of arms snaked around my bare flesh and Namjoon lifted me into the air. "Jimin, grab her legs."
They carried me to the edge of the pool and were about to throw me in when Jungkook shoved all three of us. I screamed as Namjoon and Jimin lost their balance. Jimin immediately released my legs, and I managed to wrap my arms around Namjoon as we hit the water.
"Are you okay?" he asked when we came up for air.
I nodded, giggling. Namjoon kept his arms around me and brushed my hair out of my face. "You look great," he said.
I blushed. "I would say the same, but I can't see any of you under all these layers."
He smirked. "How much more did you want to see?"
Jimin splashed us then, which started a water fight so massive that even Yoongi had to be roped into it. When I was soundly defeated, I went to grab my camera and took pictures of the boys in the water.
"Namjoon, get out! Jimin and Hoseok look too cute for you to be in the photo!"
He pouted and came and sat by me. I ignored him and took more pictures.
Eventually, he said, "You know, this could be our first date."
"Sure," I said happily.
Namjoon squinted. "I was joking."
"Oh."
"A date would be paid for, and it would be the two of us alone, and we would go somewhere."
I shrugged. "Okay."
"Do you not want that?"
I bit my lip. "I want that, I just don't need it. I know I'm completely professional around you guys all the time, but I can be chill. Besides, if this were our first date, I wouldn't have time to get nervous for it. I like that idea."
Namjoon smiled. "You keep surprising me."
I took another photo of Jungkook and Taehyung wrestling. "I have to. You live such a wild life that I've got to exceed expectations."
"I think I would like you this much regardless of my lifestyle."
"Let's call this our first date."
Namjoon smiled. "Should we take a picture to commemorate it?"
He grabbed his phone and took a few selcas of us. "Look at how cute you are," I cooed at him, pinching his cheeks.
Namjoon jerked away with a frown. "Do I have to remind you that my stage name used to be Rap Monster?"
"No, because history will never let you live that down."
"Hey!"
I smiled at him and kept looking through the pictures on his phone. There were tons of photos, a few of the ones with Hobi in them that I had sent him from after the fan meet, the ones we had just taken, lots of him posing for photos I had taken of him at different places, and even a few candids of me. I recognized which ones he had posted from the ones he hadn't, and for whatever reason I knew that all of the ones with me wouldn't make it to any social media platform. Neither would the similar photos on my phone.
"Do you want a picture of just you at the pool?" he asked.
I shook my head. "No, thanks." I tried to push the thought far from my mind and forced a smile at him. "Thanks for a great first date."
He smiled cheekily. "Thank you for wearing such a great outfit." His hand skimmed the top of my knee. I rolled my eyes and batted his hand away.
"Aish, that was just your knee!"
"And it's as high as you're getting," I informed him.
He pouted and gave me his best puppy face.
"On the first date, anyway."
"So there's going to be another one?"
I smiled again, and this time, it was totally genuine. "For sure."
