Six years. It's been six years since it all began. Six years ago you slayed the Fell Dragon, Grima, and disappeared from the world you had just became a part of. You only had two years with the Shepherds but you had befriended them, cared for them, and come to love them. One you have even come to marry. But for the past six years you've been gone. You used to think about your friends daily, they'd taken over every second of your day. You laughed with them, smiled with them, and even when you were separated you thought about them every waking moment. But then from hourly, it went to daily, from daily to weekly, and from weekly to monthly, and after that... you never forgot. Never. They were always in the back of your mind, you still loved them and cherished them for everything they gave you but sometimes you were distracted. Distracted by worlds full of dragons and warring kingdoms. Sometimes you found someone that reminded you of the old days. Like a girl you once knew that would frequently follow you around, or the loud, dramatic boy who loved being a hero. Red and green knights that you have seen over and over again. But, after all this time, it's time to return. The world you love. The world of awakening. The Kingdom of Ylisse.
"Welcome back loyal Shepherds! Today marks the sixth anniversary since you saved not only our kingdom, but the world." Phila, Emmeryn's Falcon Knight, announced. Throughout the banquet hall the soldiers rejoiced.
"Milord, are you okay?"
"Don't worry, Frederick, I'm fine." Chrom smiled and looked out over his loyal Shepherds. He watched Vaike and Owain stand on their chairs and yell nonsense as Tiki took a nap in her seat. Lissa was poking at Lon'qu as he was examining the potatoes. Gaius and Stahl were trying to take as much food as possible while the Sully, Sumia, Cordelia, and their children watched in amusement. Henry was trying to get a crow to fly through the window and it looked like Tharja was trying to summon a demon. Chrom cleared his throat. He tried to keep his composure, someone who should be there was nowhere to be seen.
"Loyal Shepherds, you have been my greatest allies as well as my greatest friends. We fought together in wars, survived time travel, fought countless enemies, fought the undead. We have shown that together, we can do anything," Chrom paused and forced a smile despite knowing how hard the next part was going to be for everyone to hear. "Naturally, we would not have lived these past six years in peace if it wasn't for ______. I know this is painful for..."
Tip, tap, tip, tap
The sounds of heels clicking on the floor echoed in the distance as Chrom continued his speech.
"...and we'll miss ____. Even though we never found _____'s body we hope that (he/she) will forever rest in pea-" He immediately stopped talking as the banquet door opened.
And there you stood.
"Hi everyone. I'm home."
