Shadow's Change

Chapter 16

Shadow POV

   I'm in labor... But it's too early!.. And I'm so weak... I don't think that I can do this...

Sonic is right next to me, holding my hand and trying to comfort me. ''It's okay Shadow... I'm right here next to you...'' I can see that he is worried just like me. ''I... I can't do this... I feel so weak...'' I'm panting in pain. Sonic kisses my forehead gently. ''You can do this. You're strong and I believe in you...'' He squeezes my hand softly. ''I know you can do this... Our baby will be with us after that... We will be a real family...'' He smiles at me. I smile a bit, even in pain, he can make me smile. ''I'll try my best...'' He kisses me slowly. ''You're the best Shad. I love you...'' I whimpers in pain but answer him. ''I love you too...'' I prepare myself to push... Here we go...

   It's been 2 hours... I'm panting loudly and sweating a lot. I'm maybe the Ultimate Life Form, but even my body have limits...

''Come on Shad, you're almost done...'' Sonic says to me, kissing my forehead. ''I... I can't... I can't...'' I try to catch my breath but I feel too weak. ''Please Shadow... Just one more time... We will have our baby after that...'' He looks worried at me. I nod a bit, but I know that I don't have any energy left...

I push one last time, screaming in pain... And then I lost consciousness...

Sonic POV

   I hear a baby cry. I smile at this, and I hope that he is fine...

''You did it Shad-'' I got cut off by a beep from the machine next to me, I look at it to see a flat line...

No... He didn't... He can't...

''... S-Shadow?..'' He is pale, with his eyes closed. No... No!... NO!!!

''Shadow!..'' I try to hold him but some doctors grabs me to get me out of the room. ''We are sorry sir, but you need to get out. We will try to save him.'' I struggles a bit. ''No!.. Shadow!.. SHADOW!!!''

   It's been some minutes now... I'm crying in the waiting room... curled on a chair... I have lost Shadow... I'm so sorry Shadow... I'm so sorry...

Then I start to hear a baby crying, making me raise my head slowly... Something is telling me to go to it... And without thinking, I walk to it. It's a room where they put newborn babies, I see where the crying came from... There is a little baby bed with Shadow's room number on it.. It's...

I slowly go to him... A bit hesitant... But I look at him slowly and gasp... Here is a baby albino hedgehog... with a peach muzzle... Like me... And a little chest fur... Just like Shadow... He is my baby... I can feel tears start to fall on my cheeks again, and I gently stroke my baby's cheek.

''Shh... It's okay little one... D-Daddy is right here now...'' He is sniffing and whimpering a bit... He is so small... And weak... I hope he is fine...

Gently, he started to calm down and falls asleep from my touch. I smile a bit... He were just scared and felt no really good... But I'm sure he will get better...

   ''Excuse me sir? You were with the patient named Shadow?'' I look behind me to see a nurse. ''Yes... He is... Fine?..'' I say hesitantly... Don't tell me he is... dead...

She smiles at me gently. ''We make him back. It wasn't easy and he is really weak right now.'' I sigh in relief with tears in my eyes... He is alive... ''Thank you so much...'' ''No problem sir, you can go see him now, but your baby will have to stay for a while.'' I look at her in concern. ''Something's wrong with him?..'' ''He is premature and weak, but we will take care of him. We will do everything we can to help him.'' I nod slowly and look at my son, patting his head slowly. ''get well soon... Son...'' I then go back in Shadow's room...

   I hope that both of you will be fine... I can't live without you two now...
