“SKYE! HURRY UP!” Dylan shouted from downstairs.

“I’M COMING!” I shouted back. I turned off my room light and grabbed my purse on my way out. I ran downstairs. “You’re so impatient.” I muttered under my breath.

“We’re supposed to be at school by 8:45. It’s 8:40 now.” He said.

“It’s not like they’re going to leave without us, so relax.” I said. I put my boots on and zipped up my jacket. It was still pretty cold outside. “Ready.” I announced.

Dylan rolled his eyes and opened the door. I stepped out and he did the same behind me. I took out my keys and locked the door as he unlocked the doors to the car.

I ran into his car and slammed the door behind me. It was still freezing outside. Dylan started the car and started towards our school.

We arrived at 8:50. All of the grade 12 English classes this semester (which are 3) were gathered around their teachers.

“Oh, there they are.” Lisa said, pointing towards Dylan and I as we stepped out of his car.

“Okay,” our teacher checked off our names, “looks like we have everyone.” He unclipped a bunch of papers out of the clipboard. “Here are the directions. I printed one out for each car along with a map.” He came around and handed out two sheets of paper to each driver.

A few minutes later, everyone broke off into groups and got into cars. I, of course, was stuck with Dylan, ALONE, for the entire ride there and back.

“I’m not listening to this radio station.” Dylan said, switching the radio station back to the original one.

“Well I’m not listening to this radio station.” I said, changing it to the one I wanted.

“Skye.” He said in that warning tone your parents usually use with you when they want you stop doing something. He switched it back.

I leaned forward and turned the radio off. “There, if we can’t agree on a station then we’re not listening at all.” I said.

I heard him let out a frustrated sigh. “Fine.” He grunted.

My phone started beeping, signaling that I had a text message. I flipped it open and saw that it was from Joseph. Wow, he actually decided to acknowledge my existence, I thought.

Hey Babe. How’s the trip so far?

I really need to talk to him about this whole ‘babe’ thing. I rolled my eyes and reluctantly texted back.

Well we’re still on the way there. We’ve been driving for about 30 minutes right now. It should be 15 more minutes.

I clicked the send button.

We’ve been driving for thirty minutes?” Dylan said, emphasizing the ‘We’ve.’

“Were you reading my text?” I said. He smirked but kept his focus on the road. “You can’t just read my texts like that.” I said.

“It’s not like I took your phone.” He said.

“Yeah but sti-“ I was interrupted when he turned the radio on at a volume higher than it should’ve been. “Excuse me. I thought we agreed no radio.”

“There you go again with the ‘we’.” He said in a fake, dramatic tone.

I lowered the volume and leaned back in my chair with an equally dramatic ‘huff’. I folded my arms across my chest and decided that I could probably survive for the next 10 minutes.
