Come on Skye, you can do this. He’s a jerk, and he’ll only hurt you again. This shouldn’t be hard at all. In fact, it should be one of the easiest things you’ve ever done. I took a deep breath as I walked towards my locker where Joseph was waiting.

“Hey babe,” he said, as he leaned down.

I stopped him. “Look, I’m not an idiot.” I said. He had a puzzled look on his face. “I heard the girl you were with last night. And don’t try to lie your way out of this Joseph.” I said

“Skye, nothing happened between-“

“NO!” I yelled. Silence filled the hallway and all eyes were on us.

“You’re making a scene.” He said in a hushed, pissed off tone.

“I really don’t give a fuck.” I said, folding my arms across my chest. “I’m so done with you and your stupid excuses. We’re over.” I ignored the sadness I felt. I knew I was doing the right thing.

“But Skye,” he started. I didn’t want to listen to him try to save this relationship, so I turned around and started walking away. I could hear him saying something, but I didn’t bother to pay any attention to it.

Everyone in that hallway was whispering to each other and watching me. I decided that I should go to calculus class early to avoid all this.

I made it to class about 3 minutes before the bell. The classroom was empty, which I normally wouldn’t like, but right now it was a relief.

I took my seat and put my head down on my desk. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I decided that word was getting out about Joseph and I, so it was probably Amy or Lisa trying to figure out what was going on.

I reluctantly took my phone out of my pocket. Turns out I was wrong, since it was actually Jack.

Hey, what’s up?

I smiled and shook my head. He always texted me when he was in physics class; he hated that class.

Just broke up with Joseph. You?

The bell rang, and a few people started to fill the room. I slouched a bit in my chair so that people wouldn’t keep looking at me.

What happened? I can come over tonight and we’ll talk.

I quickly sent my message before my teacher walked in.

Sounds good, see you then.

I put my phone in my pocket right when Dylan came in and took his seat.

“So,” he started, “you broke up with him?”

I nodded and looked down. “Yeah.” I was still mad at him for what he said yesterday, so I replied with a lot of attitude.

“Skye, I sai-“

“Good morning class. Please take out your homework, I’ll be coming around to check.” Our teacher said, interrupting Dylan.

I flipped to my homework and sat back in my chair.

“Skye, are you seriously still mad?” Dylan asked, looking at me. He sounded really annoyed, so I decided to have some fun with this. I looked straight ahead and completely ignored him. “Skye.” He said. I continued to ignore him. “Girls are so damn emotional.” I heard him mutter, as he turned to face the front. I smiled to myself out of satisfaction.

“Why’d you break up with him?” Amy asked as soon as I walked into the change room for gym class. A bunch of the girls looked at me. Some of them had looks of sympathy, and others looked excited since Joseph was now single.
