Chapter 2

Ashley-

I slip my headphones on, letting myself drown in my favourite song, If I Can't Be With You by R5. Did I forget to mention I'm a HUGE fan of R5? Yeah, I have been since I found on of their R5TV episodes on YouTube.

I hear the a knock on my room door, then it opens, and my guidance counsellor appears.

"Hi Ashley," she smiles softly at me as I take off my headphones.

I don't respond. I would, I just don't like talking to her very much. Only because she asks questions that sometimes make me feel uncomfortable.

"I came up here to tell you," she pauses. "That there's a family wanting to adopt you! Isn't it exciting?!" He smiles widely.

My eyes widen. "W-what? There is?"

"Yes, Ashley," she hugs me. "I'll miss you. C'mon downstairs, and I'll meet you at the bottom of the staircase."

I knew what she meant by this. She meant pack up my stuff, and take it all down. I nod, as she walks out of my room.

I take my bags out from under my bed, and start packing up all of my stuff, and posters that were hung up.

Ross-

I sit up in bed, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. I look around mine and Ryland's room.

Hey, isn't today the day we pick up the girl Mom and Dad are adopting today? Oh, yeah, we are! We've all seen what she looks like, but we've never met her. She had nice name, what was it? Anna? No... What was it? Ash? Oh, that's right! Ashley. What a nice name. It doesn't start with an 'R.' Haha.

"Ross! Ryland! Time to get down for breakfast!" Mom calls for us.

I get off my bed, shaking Ryland awake. "Ryland, bro, time to wake up." He groans, making me laugh. "Bro, don't you remember? Today's the day we're picking up Ashley!"

He turns over. "Who's Ashley - oh! That's right! Okay, I'm up!" He jumps out of bed, and we race down the stairs, and I win, sitting in the dining room, wolfing down Mom's awesome pancakes.

After we were all dressed and ready to go, we loaded into the van. Dad was driving, Mom was in the passenger, I was in the middle row, Rocky beside me, and there's a thrid seat, in our row, but we keep it folded down. Then in the back was Riker, Ryland, and Rydel.

We finally arrive at the orphanage, all of us piling out of the van, walking behind Mom and Dad, following them into a waiting room. We all sit as Mom talks to the receptionist.

"We'll have to wait a few minutes for Ashley to come down," Mom says, sitting down next to Dad.

To pass time, I start to poke Rocky. He looks at me with an annoyed look.

"Ross," he says. "Could you stop?!"

I sigh, resting my arm back on the armrest. I start to tap my fingers gently against the armrests. Then we all hear footsteps, and a middle-aged woman walks down a flight of stairs, I'm assuming that lead up to the kids' rooms.

"Hello Mr and Mrs. Lynch," he smiles softly at us. "Ashley will be down in a minute or so, she's just packing up."

"Does she need help?" Rydel speaks up.

The woman looks at her, a smile still on her lips. "Sure, dear. If it's okay with your parents, of course."

Mom and Dad nod as Rydel jumps up, and pulls me along.

Ashley-

I take down my last poster of R5, putting in one of my smaller bags. I suddenly hear two sets of footsteps coming toward my room, then I hear a soft knock on my door.

"Hi Ashley," I turn to see Rydel standing there, with Ross right behind her. My eyes widen, making her chuckle. "You a fan?"

I nod. "H-hi," I pause. "Are - are you the family who is adopting me?"

"Yeah!" She smiles, moving so Ross could step in a little too. He waves, sending me one of his bright smiles, making me wave slightly in return. "We came up here to see if you needed any help packing up."

"Oh," I say. "Well, uh, okay. You could take those down for me, if you wouldn't mind, and I'll be down in a minute." They both nod, taking a small bag each.

Rydel walks out, and Ross follows behind her, turning back for a quick minute to smile at me again. I manage a smile back, flinging my backpack over my shoulder, rolling my suitcase behind me.

I make it to the bottom if the stairs, my guidance counsellor at the bottom. I follow behind her to come face-to-face with the Lynch family. I only know this because Rydel and Ross came up.

"Ashley, these are the Lynches. They're your new family." She motions to them, making all of smile brightly at me, and wave.

I guess this is a fresh start.
