Chapter 32
Carter-
I listen as Mom and Dad argue, once again.
"You're being unreasonable!" I hear Dad yell at Mom.
"I am not!" Mom opposes, and I sigh, taking out my phone, texting Ariel.
'Me: They're fighting again'
'Ariel: It's okay, it'll be over soon. Want me to get Mom or Dad to call so it'll stop?'
'No, it's okay, I guess. Thanks tho'
'Love ya, talk to u soon x'
'Talk to u soon'
Our conversation ends there, and I sigh again, hearing Mom and Dad scream at each other.
They're always fighting. I don't get it. Aren't they supposed to love each other? I sigh quietly at my thoughts, and finally decide to walk downstairs.
"STOP!" I shout, making Mom and Dad to look over at me in the entrance of the living room.
Ashley-
Did Carter hear all this? I didn't realize.
"Just stay up in your room, C," I say softly.
"No!" Carter exclaims. "No! This needs to stop! I don't understand! Aren't you guys supposed to be happy together; not always fighting?!"
I sigh, looking over at Ross, who's fave is filled with regret and guilt.
"We're sorry," I say softly, speaking for the both of us. "Sometimes parents get into fights; we can't help it."
"Okay, fine," he sighs. "From this point on, unless it's needed, no more fighting."
"Well, C," I sigh. "That can't always work. Everyone in a relationship has fights."
"Not this often though,"
Carter did have a point. I guess we'll have to work it out a different way.
"We'll talk about it," I tell Carter, making him nod, walking out of the living room.
"He is right," I say after a silence.
"I know," Ross sighs. "But what are we supposed to do? We can't just stop the fights altogether. And like you said, every one in a relationship has fights."
"Maybe we just need some time away from each other," I say after a moment. "Maybe," he sighs. "But I'm already out of the house enough."
I sigh. This'll never work out.
"I think we need to see someone," I say quietly.
"No, Ash," he opposes. "We can get through this ourselves."
"No, we can't, Ross!" I raise my voice not realizing it, then I take a deep breath. "That's the thing, babe. We can't, we need to see someone."
"No," he states. "We are not seeing someone. It's final."
Why is he being so stubborn? Why can't Ross just accept that we need a little help with our relationship?
"I can't believe you," I harshly whisper. "I thought you cared about our relationship more than that."
And with those last words, I slip on my Converse, grabbing my keys and purse from the table by the front door, walking out, needing to think things through.
